Tag | I ♥ Drugstore Makeup

I have never been a huge fan of tag for some reasons, but I am actually really getting into them and now, I just can't get enough! Let's be honest here; they are pretty easy posts to write, but most importantly, they are fun to do, and to read! I found this tag on Evelyn's blog (which is one of my favorite, by the way!) and since I happen to prefer drugstore makeup to high end products, I thought it wouls be super interesting to do it!

1. What is your favourite drugstore make-up brand?

I would probably say Revlon since it's one of the only cruelty-free drugstore makeup brands that is of high quality at an affordable price, even though I have not tried a lot of their products besides their lipsticks, lipglosses, lip butters and nail polishes.

2. What are your favourite face, cheek and lip products?

Face - I never wore foundation on a daily basis but I am a big fan of Marcelle BB Cream which buffs imperfections without feeling like a mask. I am also still in love with
Annabelle Zebra Bronzing Pressed Powder which is the perfect bronzer for a natural healthy glow on fair skin!

Cheeks - My favorites are Hard Candy Fox in a Box in Spicy & Sweet and Annabelle Mineral Powder Blush in Au Naturel since they are both greatly pigmented and of high quality for the price. NYX and Milani also makes great drugstore blushes.

Lips - Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Primrose which is a close dupe to the limited-edition MAC Lazy Day Lipstick*, and also a gorgeous wearable pale pink. I have also been impress by NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in La La - amazingly pigmented, great smell and genius applicator!

3. Least favourite product?

Probably Maybelline Great Lash Mascara* - did absolutely nothing for my lashes.

4. What is the best make-up bargain?

Does nail polish count as makeup? If yes, Barry M Nail Paints, definitely - amazing selection of opaque shades that take so long to chip at such a cheap price!
5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)

I would say store brands in general - most products are exact dupe at a fraction of the price, it's crazy and absolutely worth a look!

6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?

L'Oréal and Physicians Formula makeup products in general, for my personal budget.

7. What is the best drugstore dupe?

For me, it is probably Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Primrose for MAC Lazy Day Lipstick*, as mentioned earlier.

8. Drugstore product that is not worth the hype?

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters, definitely! I am a bit ashamed to admit that the only reason why I finally caved in and bought Cupcake is because this product was getting so much rave on the blogosphere, but I quickly realized that it really has nothing special! It is not moisturizing enough for my dry lips to allow me to skip lipbalm, and it is not as opaque as a lipstick - I just can't justify the price!

*Please note that these products are NOT cruelty-free

Tag | I ♥ Fall

I have been tagged by the lovely Angela at The Beauty Belle to do this super cute and fun fall tag! Now I have never been a fan of the colder weather because well, it's cold! I prefer summer, the sun, the beach... but yes, fall is beautiful, and I do love to wear cozy clothes and relax wrapped in a hot blanket with a cup of tea, not to mention that the good thing is that there is no snow - yet!
1. Favourite Fall Lip Product?

If you have been reading my blog for some times, you should know by now that I don't abide by any rules when it comes to makeup and the seasons - I wear what I like, when I like it, and even if it's Fall, I'm not particularly keen on dark and vampy lipsticks. Would I be boring if I said that my favorite fall lip product is lip balm? I can't get enough of NUXE Rêve de Miel and Carmex!

2. Favourite Fall Nail Polish?

As stated previously, I am as likely to wear bright shades as much as dark ones, because hey, what is better than painting your toenails yellow to cheer you up on a dull, cold and snowy or rainy winter day?
3. Favourite Fall Drink?

The original question was 'Favourite Starbucks Fall Drink' but since I have stepped foot only once in a Starbucks - and I don't even remember what I ordered, but it was certainly none of their 'fancy' drinks - I am just going to answer with my favorite fall drink, which is probably hot chocolate with marshmallows... or tea with marshmallows... or coffee... pretty much everything with marshmallows ahah!

4. Favourite Fall Candle?

Anything with peppermint or cinnamon and I also associate sweet fragrances with the colder months. I don't have a favorite candle but I do really enjoy Time & Again Crackling Wick Scented Candles in Sweet Peppermint which smells fresh yet not overly sweet, and it makes that comforting sound that if you close your eyes, you can easily imagine yourself sitting next to a fire - how genius is that?

5. Favourite Fall Scarf or Accessory?

This cropped faux-leather jacket that I got for only $20 at Ross during my trip to Wildwood -  I have a thing for motorcycle jackets, and it's even better if it's cropped and if it has zippers! I bought it in Small and even though it does run small and it's not very stretchy, I will be sure to make the most out of it while it's not too cold outside - I especially like to wear it with an oversized scarf.

6. Haunted House, Haunted Hay Ride or Haunted Corn Maze?

I'm not exactly sure what is an 'haunted hay ride' and I don't think haunted corn mazes are that scary - at least, the ones I went to - but I'm way too easily scared to even enter an haunted house so I would say, neither of those!
7. Favourite Halloween Movie?

My favorite horror movie series has to be Saw - of course! - and horror movies are my favorite ones, especially the ones with ghosts or spirits because I am a firm believer in ghosts. I am not a big fan of those silly demons, zombies or supernatural creatures movies though.

8. Favourite Candy to Eat on Halloween?

I prefer chocolate over candy - Caramilk, Mars, Oreo - yum! - but I do enjoy my share of sour candies too!

9. What Are You Dressing Up As For Halloween?

I am still hesitant between being a sexy sailor or a referee - which one would you recommend?

10. What Is Your Favourite Thing About Fall?

Definitely the cozy clothes, warm blankets, hot chocolate and bonfires!

Tag | Beauty Blogger

(image: weheartit)

This tag has been rotting in my draft posts for so long that I don't even remember on which blog I found it, but I thought it looked fun!

1. What are your favorite types of blog posts to write?
I really love writing hauls and I guess that's because I don't get to write some very often. Some don't like these kind of posts because they say it's bragging, but I don't see it that way. Hauls are also my favorite posts to read, especially when they include swatches. I would also say reviews because I love to share what works and what doesn't work for me.

2. What are your favorite blogs to read?
Beauty blogs, of course! I don't think I'm following any other types of blogs - I'm not especially drawn to fashion or lifestyle blog, even though I appreciate variety in a beauty blog.

3. How did you pick your blog name?
Well, I guess you can see I did not go far to find this name, but at the same time, I was looking for something really simple that would say it all, and Gaby's Beauty Blog was born!

(image: weheartit)

4. Which beauty blogger is your inspiration?
I don't look up at a particular blogger but I could say I get my inspiration from most blogs and magazines I read in general.

5. Name one tip you've learned through another beauty blogger?
I learned that you could easily do your own beauty products yourself such as scrubs and face masks.

6. What made you start a blog?
I all started when I spotted a beauty blog address in a magazine and of course, curiosity got the best out of me. I owned a few personal blogs when I was younger but when I discovered the beauty community on the Internet, I felt as if I had found where I truly belong. I started by subscribing to a few blogs and then I thought, if they can do it, why can't I? So I went at it, slowly at first, then I got hooked!

7. Do you have a favorite blog post of yours?
I like my "My Goals For 2011" post because when I look back at it, I can see that I have reached a few of these goals and it makes me proud. I should do this every year, it's so motivating! I also like my "Tag: Christmas!" post because it cheers me up and it's full of good memories. Oh, and let's not forget my "Christmas Presents!" because I was definitely spoiled ahah!

8. Name on pro and one con of being a beauty blogger?
I like to be able to share my passion with fellow beauty junkies, and also meeting new friends! I can't think of much negative things except maybe that's blogging comes with a lot of responsabilities and it's time-consuming but hey, I'm not complaining because it's absolutely worth it!

(image: weheartit)

9. What advice would you give someone dealing with hate?
Of course, the good attitude to adopt would be to ignore it but I know it's just not that easy sometimes. Try not to play their little games because haters just want to get some attention.

10. How long does it take you to write a blog post?
It always depend on what kind of post but it rarely takes me under an hour, not to mention all the photo editing and stuff.

11. What other blogs apart from beauty do you like to read?
I don't really read other blogs apart from beauty!

Josianne, Valyee, Josianne, me and Sanya

12. Who have you made friends with thorough blogging?
I had the immense pleasure to be able to meet Josianne, Mélanie, Alexandra, Valyee, Genny, IsanielleJosianne, Sanya, Ellie, Marie and Kristelle at various events, but let's not forget about Taygan, who I have yet to meet face to face!

13. How do you get ideas for a blog post?
Blogs, magazines, everyday life... Everywhere!

Tag: Nail Polish Addict

(source: weheartit)

I found this tag on Sunshine Rose's blog and decide to "steal" it as I realize I don't talk much about nail polish on my blog for some reasons.

1. What's your favorite nail polish company?

Barry M, definitely! It's one of the most affordable nail polish brand and it's amazing quality for the price. I really hope they will come to Canada one day!

2. Glitter or no glitter?

Glitter, even though it's a complete mess to remove, it's totally worth it! I love how it can totally change the look of any nail polish super easily.

(source: weheartit)

3. OPI, China Glaze, or Essie?

I will have to say OPI because the only China Glaze and Essie nail polishes I have tried would chip incredibly quickly on me, which is disappointing for the steep price.

4. When do you change your nail polish?

I like to wear a difference nail polish every week (:

5. What's your favorite color on your nails?

Barry M Peach Melba because it's the most beautiful shade ever and it makes my hands look tan!

(source: weheartit)

6. Darks or brights?

I would say I go for brights more often because they are more fun and original but dark are beautiful too, although more classy.

7. What are you wearing on your nails right this moment?

Catrice Cosmetics Nail Polish in 440 I Wear My Sunglasses At Night (gorgeous greenish black with pink&green glitter)

8. Matte nails - in or out?
I have never tried them but I'm not a fan, it just looks dull in my opinion.

(source: weheartit)

9. French manicure?

I know a lot of people think this is a really dated look but I think it's very classic - when it's done right. To me a good french manicure is a nice light pink or nude with small white tips. Claw like, long white-tipped acrylics? No thanks.

10. Favorite Winter Color
I don't believe there is such a thing as winter or summer color. I just wear what I like when I feel like it!

Tag: Christmas!

(image: wehartit)

Hey ladies! Hope you're all done with your Christmas shopping and ready to party, because I'm not! In fact, I never realized tomorrow was Christmas' Eve... oh well, I'll be working anyway as last week-end I started a new job as a chambermaid at a local hotel and OMG, I love it so much! So yes, no more pressure and stress at the clothing store, now I just do my own thing and as long as everything is clean, it's perfect!

I'm still not sure what we will do for Christmas as my parents recently divorced and so I moved in with my mother but my brothers are still living with my father. We will try to have a dinner with everyone anyway, the tricky part is always to be able to find a date that will suit everybody and their girlfriend/boyfriend. My maternal grandparents are currently away in Florida (lucky them!) while I'm not sure if we will get to see my father's family. Anyway, I won't start stressing with that, we've never had a big party for Christmas anyway as I can't say I'm very close to my family.

Since I haven't got really interesting things in the mail to show you this week (I received a super cute 2012 Telus calendar and a Julep Maven box but more on that later...), I decided to do this cute Christmas tag in an attempt to get me in the mood (:

(image: weheartit)

Egg nog or hot chocolate?
Hot chocolate, with tons of mini marshmallows and chocolate syrup... yum! I think I have tasted egg nog only once in my life and OMG, never again! Eggs are already off-putting, but a drink containing eggs? Now that's just disgusting!

Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
They are always wrapped! It never occured to me that not everybody wraps presents?

Coloured lights on tree/house or white?
I think that coloured lights are more fun and screams "Christmas!" way more than white ones, but white ones are more classy and I personally like to keep some all year round in my room because they just cheer me up without being too festive. However, I can't stand blue lights, they simply drive me crazy and come on, you're not in a nightclub!

Do you hang mistletoe?
Nope!

(image: weheartit)

When do you put your decorations up?
I would say at the begginning of December, but sometimes even at the end of November!

What is your favourite holiday dish?
I don't have one. I always hated turkey and ham and I've never been a big fan of tourtière either (tourtière is a meat pie often made with pork. It's served during the Christmas holidays and it's very popular in Québec.) In my family, we've never really followed the traditional meals and we almost always ordered some chinese! My favorite part of Christmas dinner are always desserts anyway. Now that I'm a vegetarian, I have no idea what I will cook! I was thinking maybe vegetarian lasagna?

Favourite Holiday memory as a child?
I don't have one. I guess it was fun to go in those big parties with the family and play with the little cousins. Now it's just not the same. People change, you know.

When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I don't remember how old I was but I think I recognized my father's watch on Santa's arm...

Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Yes, we've always opened our gifts on Christmas Eve at night. We have tried to hold on until Christmas morning but let's just say it didn't really work!

How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
I personally hate to decorate the Christmas tree, I'm so lazy and I don't have the patience for that! Usually, my mother does it alone. There's light, cards, baubles, ornaments, etc.

Snow! Love it or dread it?
I hate snow! I always say that snow is fun until you drive a car or until you actually have to go out to work or something.

Can you ice skate?
Yes but I don't enjoy it, my feet always hurt after. I actually even took ice skating classes when I was younger!

Do you remember your favourite gift?
A Nintendo 64 with Super Mario 64, definitely! It was the start of a looooooong love story...

What is the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
I don't know, I may be the only person on heart that don't really get excited for the Holidays. I hate how my family waits until Christmas to see each other, I see that as only an excuse. Maybe it's just me being weird though.

What is your favourite Holiday dessert?
I love any desserts, especially the ones my grandmother makes!

What is your favourite holiday tradition?
We never really followed any traditions. We tried going to the church at midnight once before opening presents and never again!

Tag: This Or That?

Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eye liners, lipsticks and lip glosses or lose all your palettes and eye shadows?
All of my palettes and eyeshadows because I hardly use them anyway, but I couldn't live without mascara, thanks to my invisible lashes!

Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
Never be able to cut it again, because it's better than have none.

Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
Pink because it's easier to pull off on my fair skin tone.

If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or make up?
Clothes, although I would be tempted to "waste" it on makeup products I absolutely don't need.

Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner or eyeliner as lipstick?
Eyeliner as lipstick I guess...? It seems less messy to me than the opposite.

Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
MAC because I love their lipsticks, and I never went to a Sephora anyway.

Would you rather use only one eye shadow colour or one lip colour the rest of your life?
One lip color as I hardly shy away from pale pink shades anyway.

Would you rather wear winter clothes in the summer or summer clothes in the winter?
Winter clothes in the summer because I guess it's better to be warm than freezing?

Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?
Dark nails because it's always classy and easier to pull off on any skintone.

Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a pony tail or messy bun?
Messy bun, it's much more interesting than a ponytail.

Would you rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lip gloss?
Never use lip gloss because I could always use lipstick instead!

Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?
Sharpie them everyday because I would have some at least.

Would you rather live without make up or nail polish?
Without nail polish, althought that would be sad and boring.

Tag: Summer Besties

I'm not a big fan of tags (even though I enjoy reading them), but I've seen this one on YouTube and on some blogs and I thought it was quite interesting so I decided to give it a go!

Favorite summer...

Lip product - MAC Lazy Day Lustre Lipstick I was extremely lucky to win this gorgeous lipstick from Kim. Because of my dry lips, I don't wear lipstick as often as I would like to, but this one is definitely a favorite of mine. It's a perfect pale pink that doesn't make me look like a ghost even though I'm pale, and I like its glossy finish.

Blush - Annabelle Mineral Powder Blush - Au Naturel I've never been a big fan of mineral makeup because it tends to be a mess to use, but I love this blush regardless. Yes it goes everywhere on the bathroom counter when I try to put it on, but the color is just so natural and perfect, it's definitely worth it. This blush is easily buildable and provides a natural and radiant glow thanks to its slightly shimmery finish.

Nail Polish - Barry M Nail Paint in Mushroom Barry M is not available in Canada as of yet, but I was very lucky to receive this nail polish to try and review. It's one of the best drugstore nail polish I have tried so far! It lasts a week with minor chips, the formula is great and you barely need two coats to achieve perfect opacity. Mushroom is a super pretty taupe shade that has quickly became a staple of mine.

Bronzer - Annabelle Zebra Bronzing Powder in Haute Gold (the original question was "Liquid face product" but I don't use any) I reviewed this a long time ago, and even if I had the chance to try numerous bronzers in the meantime, I always go back to this one. It is perfectly shimmery and even if I'm fair, this bronzer gives a natural glow to my face without overdoing it.

Powder face product - Sheer Cover Mineral Foundation SPF 15 - Bisque I normally don't wear foundation, but I like to swipe this one on to absorb the oil on my face when it's hot outside. It also has SPF 15 which is great, because I don't have to apply a greasy sunscreen before going out.

Hair product - Batiste Tropical Dry Shampoo As I have super greasy roots, I fell in love with dry shampoos a long time ago, but I haven't had the chance to try Batiste until very recently - not to mention it's pretty hard to find here in Canada. Batiste is perfect: even if my hair is dark brown, the white residues are easy to brush out, and my hair is left volumized, texturized and clean for hours. With other dry shampoos, there was always a problem, but Batiste solved it all. I have tried Batiste Original, Blush and Tropical, and out of the three, Tropical is my favorite as it smells fresh and citrusy. The on the go size is also perfect to throw in my handbag.

Eye product - Too Faced Eye Shadow - Sitcom Siren When it's all hot and sweaty outside, I don't feel like putting makeup on and I tend to get lazy, that's why I like to rely on Sitcom Siren: it's a pretty taupe eyeshadow that applies like a dream and blends really well. It's a great natural shade to apply all over the lid when I'm in a hurry.

Self Tanner - Clarins Intense Bronze Self Tanning Tint For Face and Décolleté I bought this bronzer recently at Clarins 2011 Spring Warehouse Sale for $13 instead of $32 because I have never heard of a tint bronzer before. I'll be honest: the application is awful - because it's a tint, you have to be quick and apply the product exactly where you want because when it's put, it stays put - you can't blend it. I know it was meant for the face and décolleté, but I really wanted to try it all over my body, and I wasn't disappointed: it really gives a dark tan without looking orange. It's a hassle to reapply it every week thought because of tint formula but I have yet to come across a bronzer that gives me better results.

Fashion accessory - Claire's Adjustable Humming Bird Ring I won this ring from Em about a month ago, and I'm absolutely in love with it! I've never been a big ring wearer but I never had something similar to this and it is sooooo gorgeous. I love its vintage vibe and the little sparkly stones are super pretty!

Clothing piece - Garage denim shorts I don't think I have ever bought denim shorts as I prefer to simply cut off the legs of old jeans that I don't wear anymore. Why waste something that still fits? I love the look of denim shorts, they go well with everything, and I even wear them in the winter with leggings or stockings.

L - R: Lazy Day, Au Naturel, Haute Gold, Bisque, Sitcom Siren

Tag: 5 Beauty Items You Regret Buying

I've been tagged by the lovely Annabelle from Makeup Wonderland to list five products I regret buying. Now I'll be honest, I can't say I have really hated a lot of products, but for the purpose of this post, I have narrowed down some items that aren't given much love for a reason or for another.

o1. Annabelle Eye & Face Palette in Ibiza

I got this palette for only $1.50 at the first Marcelle warehouse sale I attended (see my super old post here). When I saw it, I thought it was a perfect neutral palette, but as I was a makeup noob at the time, I didn't swatched it before buying it. See the disaster for yourself:

The eyeshadows are sooo sheer and chalky, but the bronzer is great (althought a little too shimmery, but I bet it would make a great eyeshadow). I think I will depot the bronzer and give the eyeshadows away.

o2. Maybelline Expert Wear Eye Shadow Quad in Designer Chocolates

I bought it because it was on sale for $5 and it came in a package with something else... I think it was an eyeliner, I can't remember. I'm so disappointed as the shades are all so sheer and hard to blend.

You can't even see the lid shade, it's just shimmers! Same for the crease, and the browbone is almost invisible. The outer corner seems more pigmented but you need to pile on shadows to make it opaque and it's hard to blend. I'm sad because I've seen some many swatches of this quad in Chai Latte and other neutral shades and they all look pretty and pigmented.

o3. Avon Smooth Minerals Lipstick SPF 15 in Apricot Glow and Crystal Coral

I bought these somewhere in October or September (see super old post here), when I was still an Avon rep, as I had a discount and they were already on sale. I think I got them for around $3. I was new to lipsticks then (and I still am!) but I really wanted to try a mineral lipstick, and I thought the shades looked pretty. The swatches in the Avon leaflets were always terrible, but I ended up getting two shades that looked natural.

I was disappointed to see that they are so shimmery. I was looking for a natural look, so I thought a mineral lipstick would be perfect for that. Those shades are sheer and natural, but the shimmers still bug me a little.

 Apricot Glow

 Crystal Coral

L-R: Apricot Glow, Crystal Coral

I love that they are sheer and feel almost like a gloss on the lips as they are so lightweight. These lipsticks are supposed to keep lips smooth as they are enhanced with shea butter and conditioning oils, but I don't think they could replace lipbalm if you have super dry lips like me.

To be clear, I don't hate these lipsticks, I just wish Avon would picture more accurate swatches of their products in their leaflets. If I knew they would contain so much shimmers, I wouldn't have bought them.

o4. Avon Solutions Winter Moisturizing Mask (review)

I was thrilled to try this mask as it seemed to have been designed especially for dry skin that gets even more dryer in the winter, but it was a complete let down.

The mask has a subtle apricot scent and the texture looks great when you dip your finger in the tub, but it's a different story when applied to the face. It's too light for a mask and it's not moisturizing at all. What a waste of money!

o5. Herbal Essence Dangerously Straight Pin Straight Hairspray

Wow, this is sooo old! I bought it when I was in high school, when I started envying the girls with super straight hair. I didn't know about flat iton at the time LOL. Needless to say, this is crap. It makes my hair stiff and sticky (even though it claims not to) and it doesn't help it stay straight at all.
