Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder Bronzer

Hi ladies! I know, it seems that I keep repeating that I want to feature more makeup products on Gaby's Beauty Blog, but you know, skincare is really my first love! I figured out it would not be too hard to talk about some of the products I reach for almost on a daily basis, and one of them is Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder Bronzer - doesn't it bother you how most of Physicians Formula have incredibly long names?!

I must start by saying that this bronzer is nothing special or over the top, and if it was not for its faint 'violet' scent - which is more fruity to me - I probably would have not cared much about it at all, but I was curious. This bronzer is infused with Physicians Formula' Happy Boost Blend, which features natural plant extracts to promote a feeling of happiness by mimicking the effect of endorphins and helping protect the skin from environmental stress - sounds gimicky, right? Well, it is - no, the scent did not provide a feeling of joy when I applied this bronzer, and don't worry, the smell is so subtle that you - or others - won't be able to catch a sniff of your bronzer thorough the day.

This bronzer is really ultra-smooth and the complementary palette of color blends together to even out skin tone with  satin finish (despite its shimmery appareance in the pan), a flawless radiance and healthy glow, although I wished it was darker, since I have to build it up for a good two minutes. Also, the little pink heart bugs me a little since I personally don't use bronzer directly on my cheek, and I really don't want a hint of pink if my bronzer is going to be applied all over my face!

I quite like the cute - but bulky - plastic compact that includes a mirror, but don't be fooled by its size, because you are not getting that much amount of product - there is a small, flat and not so soft brush that I probably won't use, but I will keep it in case of emergency touch-ups, housed in a separated compartment underneath the bronzer.

I am not overly in love with this bronzer since it is mostly a waste of time to me - yes it is buildable, but it is so subtle, it barely shows up on my naturally pale face without at least two applications, and at 4:45 in the morning, I really don't need this! I really prefer my Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Pressed Bronzer, which provides a dark, natural and uniform tan with only one swipe of product.

Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder Bronzer is available in Translucent, Beige, Light Bronzer and Bronzer for $13.95.

Everyday Makeup Routine

It has been quite some time since I had a proper makeup routine because I have been working as a chambermaid at a local hotel for the last year and I did not really see the need for a full face of makeup back then since the job involved mainly cleaning rooms alone - I would even skip mascara when I was especially tired in the morning! However, I recently got a new job as an assistant manager, meaning that I get to work with people, and this simple fact motivates me to take more time for my makeup in the morning.

Of course, waking up at 4:45 is never easy and I would rather spend more time in bed than working on my makeup, so most days, I simply get away with mascara and concealer, but when I have more time ahead of me, I actually like prepping for work - am I the only one who thinks it is motivating?

Even though I don't really understand the hype surrounding Benefit The POREfessional, I really want to use up my tube since it was a gift, so I make sure to apply it on the areas where my pores are apparent - believe me, they are huge - hence my forehead, cheeks and chin. It does not really seem to make a difference in the size of my pores, but I like how it makes my skin silky smooth and how it primes for concealer and/or foundation.

When I forgot to apply self tanner the night before and I am feeling especially pale, or when I experience all over redness due to eczema, I like to rely on Covergirl NatureLuxe Liquid Silk Foundation* in 'Maple 340' since it provides just enough coverage while feeling super lightweight, and it even seems to give my face an healthy glow. 'Maple 340' seems a tad too dark when I am not wearing fake tan, but because the coverage is not heavy, it blends effortlessly for a natural and glowy finish.

Most of the time, I prefer to skip foundation and simply pinpoint problem areas with concealer, and my current concealer of choice is Marcelle Concealer Palette. It is made with a universal yellow-toned corrector base and three cream concealers with a silky texture that easily conceals imperfections, while ensuring a natural and uniform coverage.

I was recently given L'Oréal True Match Touche Magique Concealer* in 'Warm Beige' and I quite enjoy using it to brighten up my sleepy eyes since it is an illuminating concealer which helps to visibly improve the appearance of dark circles and fine lines. I find that its coverage is not heavy enough to properly concealer redness or imperfections, this is why I solely use it on my eye area, or as an highlighter around my nose.

I like to seal everything up with NYC Loose Translucent Face Powder* in 'Translucent'* since it does not leave my skin looking powdery or dry but it absolutely does not last all day, and believe me, I have extremely dry skin, so this is beyond me! Well, I guess that for around $3, you get what you pay for - I would not recommend this for people with oily skin type though.

I have tons of blushes and bronzers in my stash but I am trying to find favorites and stick to them in an attempt to use up a few, but the temptation to switch them up every few days is hard to resist! I have managed to rely on Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder in 'Bronzer' and Milani Baked Blush in 'Luminoso' almost every day for the past few weeks though! The bronzer has nothing special even though I like that it is mostly matte, but the blush - oh, that blush! - is the prettiest, universally-flattering, soft golden peachy/coral shade ever - it infuses my cheeks with a stunning sheen that illuminates my skin and instantly makes me look awake! I think I will write a proper review instead of going on and on endlessly about it, so stay tuned!

Maybe it is a bit too early to judge Dior Diorshow Extase Mascara in 'Black' since I have been using it for less than a month, but I am far from convinced. This does nothing exceptional that would justify $35, I don't understand how to use the weird brush shape so I always end up with tons of mascara all over my lids, not to mention that there is way too much product on the wand when you take it out of the tube. Its formula is way too wet and it takes forever to dry, especially if you apply coats after coats, which are likely to end up in a clumpy mess if you are not careful. It works OK and it does hold a curl all day, but that's all.

Most of the time, I will apply a swipe of neutral eyeshadow such as Too Faced Single Eye Shadow in 'Sitcom Siren' and simply line my eyes with MAC Eye Pencil in 'Ebony'* - which is awfully unpigmented and blends extremely badly, but I am trying to use it up - just to look a bit more put together. When I have some time left, I will finish by quickly filling my brows with Wet n Wild Coloricon Brow & Eye Liner in  'Taupe' which is the creamiest and smoothest brow liner I have ever used.

L - R: Bronze, Luminoso, Ebony, Sitcom Siren and Taupe

I still find it a bit hard to stick to a specific routine but it can truly saves time in the morning, and also, it helps you use up your products! Do you have a makeup routine?

FOTD & OOTD | Christmas & New Year's Eve 2012

I was really looking forward to Christmas this year because since our parents are not together anymore, my brothers and I attended two Christmas parties instead of one and we had tons of fun! Both parties were held at my brother's house on December 23 and 24, where we enjoyed amazingly decadent food meticulously cooked by my sister in law Magali - oh, and don't even get me started on the desserts... and the drinks - let's just say that the girl who used to only drink beer discovered a new love for whiskey sour cocktails (Magali's secret ingredient is frozen lemonade concentrate)!

I totally forgot to snap pictures of my makeup and outfit from December 23 but oh well! Since it was Christmas - OK, Christmas' Eve, technically - I decided to go for a heavy smokey eye with hints of purple - which left me with swollen eyes the morning after, of course (thanks, disgusting carmine!) - and glitters with nude lips.

I absolutely don't know what my right hand is doing in the far left picture -_-

I thought it would be the perfect occasion to wear my Stepping Out Little Black Dress by DreamGirl that fits soooo well and is so flattering! The material is just so stretchy and comfy, it's amazing! I added tights before going out to make it look a bit more dressy and elegant.

I was very lucky to have just recovered from a cold just in time for the New Year - is there a worst time of the year to be sick in bed? Our New Year's Eve party was held at my mother's home, where we ate, drank, sang, danced all night - I had not gone to bed at 5 am in such a long time! We also opened our remaining gifts - we had so many, we could not bring them all to my brother's house for Christmas! I will show you what I was fortunate enough to receive in an upcoming post but in the meantime, I posted a little sneak peek on my Facebook page.

I was recently spoiled rotten by the amazingly generous people over at Essence so I decided to finish my subtle makeup look with a touch of red lipgloss, and Red Blossom is incredibly shiny and so moisturizing! As for my outfit, since I wore a dress for both Christmas parties, I decided to a bit more casual. Oh and yes, I did chop my hair for the new year, but I will probably write a separate post about this too!

Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Pressed Bronzer

Physicians Formula has never been a brand that really interested me, mostly because their products are on the pricey side for a drugstore brand. However, I had the chance to win quite a few of their products - mainly bronzers - through giveaways, and even though two of them turned me orange - Cashmere Wear and Bamboo Wear - one of my favorite is the Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Pressed Bronzer in Medium to Dark.

Formulated with Glow Activators, an exclusive infusion of vitamins, moisturizers and antioxidants that provide mistake-proof Triple-Action Bronze Boosting, this bronzer with benefits provides an instant and lasting tan-boost that blends and builds easily to your desired level of bronze.

L - R: one swipe and blended

While I find that one swipe of product is enough to achieve the level of tan I want, I find it easy to add a little more on specific areas without turning orange, which is great since I have the darkest shade available and I am naturally quite pale.

I quite like the cute and sleek plastic compact that includes a mirror, but don't be fooled by its size, because you are not getting that much amount of product - there is a small, flat and not so soft brush that I probably won't use, but I will keep it in case of emergency touch-ups, housed in a separated compartment  underneath the bronzer.

I will admit that I was sceptical about the Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Pressed Bronzer before trying it because it just looked so shimmery in the compact, but I absolutely love how it provides an even, healthy-looking tan glow that is not completely matte, but still, the shimmers are hardly noticeable until you are in broad sunlight. This bronzer is really lightweight and glides on smoothly for a totally uniform tan.

Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Pressed Bronzer is avilable in Fair to Light, Light to Medium and Medium to Dark for $21.99 for 0.3oz./ 9g.

Tag | I ♥ Drugstore Makeup

I have never been a huge fan of tag for some reasons, but I am actually really getting into them and now, I just can't get enough! Let's be honest here; they are pretty easy posts to write, but most importantly, they are fun to do, and to read! I found this tag on Evelyn's blog (which is one of my favorite, by the way!) and since I happen to prefer drugstore makeup to high end products, I thought it wouls be super interesting to do it!

1. What is your favourite drugstore make-up brand?

I would probably say Revlon since it's one of the only cruelty-free drugstore makeup brands that is of high quality at an affordable price, even though I have not tried a lot of their products besides their lipsticks, lipglosses, lip butters and nail polishes.

2. What are your favourite face, cheek and lip products?

Face - I never wore foundation on a daily basis but I am a big fan of Marcelle BB Cream which buffs imperfections without feeling like a mask. I am also still in love with
Annabelle Zebra Bronzing Pressed Powder which is the perfect bronzer for a natural healthy glow on fair skin!

Cheeks - My favorites are Hard Candy Fox in a Box in Spicy & Sweet and Annabelle Mineral Powder Blush in Au Naturel since they are both greatly pigmented and of high quality for the price. NYX and Milani also makes great drugstore blushes.

Lips - Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Primrose which is a close dupe to the limited-edition MAC Lazy Day Lipstick*, and also a gorgeous wearable pale pink. I have also been impress by NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in La La - amazingly pigmented, great smell and genius applicator!

3. Least favourite product?

Probably Maybelline Great Lash Mascara* - did absolutely nothing for my lashes.

4. What is the best make-up bargain?

Does nail polish count as makeup? If yes, Barry M Nail Paints, definitely - amazing selection of opaque shades that take so long to chip at such a cheap price!
5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)

I would say store brands in general - most products are exact dupe at a fraction of the price, it's crazy and absolutely worth a look!

6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?

L'Oréal and Physicians Formula makeup products in general, for my personal budget.

7. What is the best drugstore dupe?

For me, it is probably Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Primrose for MAC Lazy Day Lipstick*, as mentioned earlier.

8. Drugstore product that is not worth the hype?

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters, definitely! I am a bit ashamed to admit that the only reason why I finally caved in and bought Cupcake is because this product was getting so much rave on the blogosphere, but I quickly realized that it really has nothing special! It is not moisturizing enough for my dry lips to allow me to skip lipbalm, and it is not as opaque as a lipstick - I just can't justify the price!

Birthday/Halloween FOTD + OOTD | Surprise surprise, you're much better looking when you're in disguise

This year, my friends and I decided to celebrate my birthday as well as Halloween last Friday, the actual day of my birthday - even though I was allowed to open my birthday gift two days before my birthday (post to come)! We made vegetarian sushis and drank all night, it was fun!

Nauticall Doll costume - Costume Discounters | nail polish - Illamasqua Nail Duo Throb & Spartan

You may remember that last year I dressed up as Pikachu for Halloween, but this year I went for something less original - and complicated - my Nautical Doll costume that I received from Costume Discounters this summer.

I don't have a close-up of my makeup because, as always, I did not have the time to take proper pictures, but I just did a heavy dark blue smokey eye with red lips.

FOTN | The road is long, we carry on, try to have fun in the meantime

I went clubbing with some friends at Pub Ste-Thérèse some times ago (hence the brown hair, lack of bangs and pasty white skin) and even though it has been years since the last time I stepped foot in this place, it was fun, but the DJ sucked big times! They were supposed to close the place for one week to renovate everything - and I really hope they "renovated" the DJ as well... kidding.

FOTD + OOTD: Tell me what you want so we can do just what you like

I recently started working as a sales person at a clothing boutique at my local mall (I won't discolse the name here, I don't want any problem, but if you really want yo know, you can tweet me) and I love it so far, it's very different from my previous jobs but I'm always up for new aventures and challenges!

The employees have a dress code to follow and I'm actually enjoying having to get dressed up for work - and we are also required to wear lipstick or lipgloss, which is cool because I don't have lots of occasions to wear lipsticks and I have so many! So here are my FOTD and OOTD for my second day at work.
