Everyday Makeup Routine

It has been quite some time since I had a proper makeup routine because I have been working as a chambermaid at a local hotel for the last year and I did not really see the need for a full face of makeup back then since the job involved mainly cleaning rooms alone - I would even skip mascara when I was especially tired in the morning! However, I recently got a new job as an assistant manager, meaning that I get to work with people, and this simple fact motivates me to take more time for my makeup in the morning.

Of course, waking up at 4:45 is never easy and I would rather spend more time in bed than working on my makeup, so most days, I simply get away with mascara and concealer, but when I have more time ahead of me, I actually like prepping for work - am I the only one who thinks it is motivating?

Even though I don't really understand the hype surrounding Benefit The POREfessional, I really want to use up my tube since it was a gift, so I make sure to apply it on the areas where my pores are apparent - believe me, they are huge - hence my forehead, cheeks and chin. It does not really seem to make a difference in the size of my pores, but I like how it makes my skin silky smooth and how it primes for concealer and/or foundation.

When I forgot to apply self tanner the night before and I am feeling especially pale, or when I experience all over redness due to eczema, I like to rely on Covergirl NatureLuxe Liquid Silk Foundation* in 'Maple 340' since it provides just enough coverage while feeling super lightweight, and it even seems to give my face an healthy glow. 'Maple 340' seems a tad too dark when I am not wearing fake tan, but because the coverage is not heavy, it blends effortlessly for a natural and glowy finish.

Most of the time, I prefer to skip foundation and simply pinpoint problem areas with concealer, and my current concealer of choice is Marcelle Concealer Palette. It is made with a universal yellow-toned corrector base and three cream concealers with a silky texture that easily conceals imperfections, while ensuring a natural and uniform coverage.

I was recently given L'Oréal True Match Touche Magique Concealer* in 'Warm Beige' and I quite enjoy using it to brighten up my sleepy eyes since it is an illuminating concealer which helps to visibly improve the appearance of dark circles and fine lines. I find that its coverage is not heavy enough to properly concealer redness or imperfections, this is why I solely use it on my eye area, or as an highlighter around my nose.

I like to seal everything up with NYC Loose Translucent Face Powder* in 'Translucent'* since it does not leave my skin looking powdery or dry but it absolutely does not last all day, and believe me, I have extremely dry skin, so this is beyond me! Well, I guess that for around $3, you get what you pay for - I would not recommend this for people with oily skin type though.

I have tons of blushes and bronzers in my stash but I am trying to find favorites and stick to them in an attempt to use up a few, but the temptation to switch them up every few days is hard to resist! I have managed to rely on Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder in 'Bronzer' and Milani Baked Blush in 'Luminoso' almost every day for the past few weeks though! The bronzer has nothing special even though I like that it is mostly matte, but the blush - oh, that blush! - is the prettiest, universally-flattering, soft golden peachy/coral shade ever - it infuses my cheeks with a stunning sheen that illuminates my skin and instantly makes me look awake! I think I will write a proper review instead of going on and on endlessly about it, so stay tuned!

Maybe it is a bit too early to judge Dior Diorshow Extase Mascara in 'Black' since I have been using it for less than a month, but I am far from convinced. This does nothing exceptional that would justify $35, I don't understand how to use the weird brush shape so I always end up with tons of mascara all over my lids, not to mention that there is way too much product on the wand when you take it out of the tube. Its formula is way too wet and it takes forever to dry, especially if you apply coats after coats, which are likely to end up in a clumpy mess if you are not careful. It works OK and it does hold a curl all day, but that's all.

Most of the time, I will apply a swipe of neutral eyeshadow such as Too Faced Single Eye Shadow in 'Sitcom Siren' and simply line my eyes with MAC Eye Pencil in 'Ebony'* - which is awfully unpigmented and blends extremely badly, but I am trying to use it up - just to look a bit more put together. When I have some time left, I will finish by quickly filling my brows with Wet n Wild Coloricon Brow & Eye Liner in  'Taupe' which is the creamiest and smoothest brow liner I have ever used.

L - R: Bronze, Luminoso, Ebony, Sitcom Siren and Taupe

I still find it a bit hard to stick to a specific routine but it can truly saves time in the morning, and also, it helps you use up your products! Do you have a makeup routine?

Halloween FOTD | I got to know if you're the one that got away, even though it was never meant to be

To celebrate Halloween, I had the opportunity to take part in a super fun project in collaboration with Ladbrokes (play games here!) and Illamasqua. I was sent a very lovely surprise selection of gorgeous Illamasqua makeup to use to create the ultimate Halloween look  in association with the launch of their Halloween slot games.  These are actually my first ever Illamasqua products, so I guess you can imagine how excited I was to play with them! After browsing Pinterest and weheartit for inspiration, I finally decided which makeup look I would attempt to recreate...

Benefit The POREfessional | Covergirl CG Smoothers All Day Hydrating Make-Up - 710 Classic Ivory* | Stila Love at First Blush Palette

I chose to do a ventriloquist dummy makeup look! These doll seriously creep me out, but I thought it would be fun to recreate one. This look was done really quickly, in less than half an hour after the morning after a sleepless night - not a night of partying - guess who worked the night shift? I went for bold creepy eyebrows,  crazy big doll eyes, drawn on bottom lashes and cute little heart-shaped red lips.

Illamasqua Empower Palette ('Synth' all over eye area, 'Slick' undereye crease) | NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil - Milk | Annabelle Mono Eyeshadow - Ebony| MAC Eye pencil - Ebony* | Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara

Illamasqua Lipstick - Magnetism

I am in absolutely no way a makeup artist, but this is actually the first "artistic" makeup look I have created and I think I am pretty proud of it! Of course, some things could have been improved, such as the eyes - especially the drawn on lashes, which could have been more defined - and the shading of the apples and the mouth, but hey, I think it's great for a first quick look!

Hopefully your Halloween party was more fun than mine - what were you dressed up as?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

MAKE UP FOR EVER HD VIP Event

Last Thursday, I was extremely fortunate to be invited by the very lovely Josianne from Être Radieuse to the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD VIP Event in their Pro Loft in Montreal! As a total newbie to MUFE, I didn't even know they had an office in Montreal!

Let's start with my FOTN:

Face

CoverGirl CG Smoothers All Day Hydrating Make-Up - Classic Ivory*
theBalm Time Balm Concealer - Light
Marcelle Concealer Palette in Universal Beige
NYC Translucent Loose Face Powder*

Eyes

Marcelle Power Volume Mascara
Wet n Wild Coloricon Brow & Eye Liner - Taupe
Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner - Onyx (upper lashline, waterline and smudged on lower lashline)*
Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Quad - Natural Smokes*

Lips

MAC Cremesheen Lipstick - Creme Cup

Hair

Clairol Nice 'N Easy 123 Natural Soft Black*
TS-2 Conical Barrel Style Stick Clipless Curling Iron
Alberto Weather Resistant Hairspray Mega Hold Finish

*These products are NOT cruelty-free

I had a hard time choosing what to wear but because it was relatively warm outside for the month of February, I finally went for a dress and jacket, just because I love this combo so much - and OK, because that dress is a little too revealing!

Dress - LoveMode | Cropped jacket - H&M | Purse - MAC Tartan Tale | Dove necklace - gift from my godmother | Nails - OPI Rainbow Connection

I arrived at the Pro Loft half an hour late (of course!) because 1. I totally forgot to print the VIP invitation, 2. my desktop computer (connected to the printer) would not start, 3. the printer would not let me print the invitation from my netbook, 4. I lost the internet connection (thank you, sh*tty Videotron!) when I wanted to double check the itinary one last time (at least, I had wrote it down already) and write down Josianne's cell number in case I got lost (of course, I forgot to do this sooner!) buuuuuut, despite all of this and thanks to the gods of makeup, the HD seminar had not started yet and at least, I was not the only one who was late! Phiew!

Despite having heard about HD makeup on the blogosphere, I did not really know what it was, so I appreciated the seminar and the demo the lovely Joëlle showed on the pretty model Stéphanie. I learned quite a few tips and trick indeed - did you know their HD Blush could be applied not only on the cheeks but also on the lips, as eyeshadow and even as tinted mascara? Also, for a more natural application, you can mix it with foundation.

We were served champagne and hors d'oeuvres all night long and there was even a candy bar - Josy and I did not go crazy... what, who said doggy bags?

(images: Être Radieuse)
It was great seeing Josy again, I already miss her!

The guests also enjoyed 40% off on all MAKE UP FOR EVER products, a special price that is normally reserved for the professionals! I did not purchase anything but yes, I was really tempted by this HD Blush that was around $10 after the discount...

(images: Être Radieuse)
I also met two of Josy's lovely friends, Laurie and Isanielle

Of course, we were not sent home empty-handed! Each guests received a super pretty little gift package including very generous sample size samples of three HD products: the very popular Microfinish Powder, Elixir Instant Radiance and Hydration Serum and Cream Blush in the shade #4 Fresh Pink. I will be sure to write a complete post about these products!

A huge thank you to Josianne for bringing me to such a nice event and to the MAKE UP FOR EVER team from Montreal!

Last week FOTDs + OOTDs + NOTW

Hello! I've been busy with school lately as the end of the semester is coming fast, and I won't have any rest because I'm starting summer classes on May 10 (the semester ends on May 7). I still have 3 exams coming in the following weeks, but one of them doesn't require study as it will be a simple translation from English to French, yey!

Monday of last week was my first real day at school since the strike finally ended after around a month an a half! Yey, I'm finally able to do some constructive things on weekdays LOL.

This is not really a FOTD as it is the only picture I could snap before leaving the house. I don't even remember what makeup products I was wearing xD

cami: Stitches
vest: Stitches
leggings: eBay
heart-shaped earrings: Ardène
necklace: Giant Tiger
boots: Giant Tiger

I'm totally getting addicted to those leggings! They are perfect for this strange weather (not warm enough for shorts or skirts, but not cold enough for wearing a coat). They are even warmer than my usual skinny jeans!

Tuesday, I played with some of the new Annabelle mineral line products I received to test and review.

(messy hair... I'm on a no styling tool regiment)

Face
Annabelle Mineral Powder Bronzer - Terra
Annabelle Mineral Powder Blush - Au Naturel
Annabelle Sattelite Pearl Powder - Celestial Pearl
Joe Fresh Duo Concealer - Light
CoverGirl CG Smoothers All Day Hydrating Make-Up - Classic Ivory 710 (used as concealer)

Eyes
Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara (used as eyebrow gel)
Annabelle Mineral Pigment Dust - Myth
Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Single - Vanilla (used as highligther)
Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara - Very Black

Lips
nothing (I had allergies)

skull earrings: Ardène
vest: Stitches

  • Myth is my favourite shades out of the three Mineral Pigment Dusts I had the chance to test. It's such a unique shade! It a gorgeous shimmery gray-brown, depending on the lighting.
  • The Mineral Powder Bronzer is a little hard for me to apply since my CoverGirl Minerals Powder Brush is too large for the jar, but I'm doing better every time. Maybe I should get a Kabuki brush?
  • The Mineral Powder Blush is perfect! Just like its name, it really delivers a natural glow.
  • I'm still not sure how I'm really supposed to use the Sattelite Pearl Powder, but I use it as a highlighter as it gives a really subtle glow.

Friday, I experimented with another of my new Annabelle goodies: Mineral Pigment Dust in Violet Vibe. I had an exam and it was the last time of the semester that I had class on Friday. After school, I met with friends to have dinner at my house. We cooked meat macaroni (is that how you say that in English?) with melted cheese on top. D-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s!

(excuse my right brow... I over-trimmed it and tried to fill it with eyeshadow because I don't have a matching eyeliner LOL)

Annabelle Mineral Powder Bronzer - Terra
Annabelle Mineral Powder Blush - Au Naturel
Annabelle Sattelite Pearl powder - Celestial Pearl
Joe Fresh Duo Concealer - Light

Eyes
Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara (used as eyebrow gel)
Annabelle Mineral Pigment Dust - Violet Vibe
Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Single - Vanilla (used as highligther)
Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara - Very Black
 Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner - Onyx

Lips
nothing (I had allergies)

sweatshirt: Giant Tiger
striped cami: The Bay
belt: my local flea market
jeans: Sirens

Violet Vibe is a greatly pigmented shimmery purple. I might try to use with a black base under it to make it appear darker next time.

I also attempted for the first time to achieve gradiant nails:

without flash

I used:

- Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear - First Blush
- Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear - Rockstar Pink
- Sally Hansen Ultimate Shield Fortifying Base & Top Coat

Of course, it's far from perfect, but it's fun and so simple to do!
