Project Pan Them All | January Empties

I am pretty proud of myself since I seem to be on a roll with all of those empties! Next month might be disappointing since I just started using a few new products but oh well, you can't have it all every time, right?

I like to spray Marc Anthony Salon Expert Keratin Miracle Frizz-Smoother Leave-in evenly on my damp hair to ensure easy detangling and super smooth hair - it never fails to leave it incredibly soft, hydrated and manageable. I have been using it every time I wash my hair since I got it, and I can really certify that it is a miracle product! This is really my favorite product of the Salon Expert range and I am wondering if I will ever find an alternative that is just as great.

Elin Bianco Treatment Mask has been absolutely wonderful to revive my dry hair, especially after coming back from Europe this summer, since I did not bring any conditioner and I did not look after my hair at all for a whole month... or two. The texture is amazingly perfect - it feels thick, almost like a styling paste, so it never makes a mess in the shower. My hair was left incredibly soft and smooth after the first use!

When I first started using MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Extravagant, I found the formula to be way too wet for my liking - there was so much product on the brush that I had to wipe it on a tissue before each use and between each coat! Also, the mascara took forever to dry. I was happy to see the formula improve after a few weeks though, and I was left with volumized, lengthened and defined lashes that actually held a curl all day - and I have the straightest lashes ever! - after only one coat. I like to build up to three coats with this mascara for maximum effect, but be careful because it tends to start clumping at the third coat.

KORRES Quercetin & Oak Antiageing & Antiwrinkle Eye Cream is probably my all-time favorite eye cream, since it's almost a miracle for me to have found a rich and extremely moisturizing eye cream that doesn't give me milia! I can't comment on the dark circles and pufiness claims though since I mainly use eye cream as a prevention but also to keep my delicate eye area moisturized as it gets eczema flare-ups very easily.

I am usually very happy with their body butters, but The Body Shop Brazil Nut Body Butter has been such a let down! It failed to calm my itchy and dry skin caused by eczema and it did not even seem to moisturize it, although it is said to be formulated for dry skin... even pure aloe vera did a better job than this product! Huge disappointment.

I have not tried a lot of their cleansers but LUSH Let The Good Times Roll was a pleasant surprise! Since I have dry and eczema-prone skin, I was happy to learn that, despite providing deep exfoliation, Let the Good Times Roll is gentle enough for everyone to use - my skin was not left tight or drier, instead, I could feel it being super soft and refreshed! Did you know that this best-seller was a holiday product that’s now a permanent part of LUSH's cleansers range?

Another product I was recommended for my eczema by the doctor I consulted when I had my monstruous allergic reaction after I went swimming in a supposedly radioactive lake this summer is Pro-Derm PostX2, which is supposed to be a miraculous moisturizer... but of course, I did not notice any improvment. Another almost $70 thrown out the window... thanks eczema.

I was given Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion* some times ago but I did not want to use it since it is not cruelty-free, but I must admit it came in handy - at least temporarily - to calm those rashes I was struggling with after my adventure in the radioactive lake. It did relieve my itchy and extra dry skin thanks to cooling menthol and colloidal oatmeal, but with ingredients such as parabens and alcohol, I knew this was not a long-term solution, so whn I ran out, I purchased some aloe vera as a more natural replacement.

I asked a pharmacist which supplement was recommended for vegetarians and he told me that plant foods do not contain vitamin B12, but that as a lacto-ovo-vegetarian, I could obtain most of mine from milk, dairy products, and eggs. The requirement for vitamin B12 is very low, but it is essential, so I decided to give Jamieson B12 a try anyway. I also purchased Jamieson Vita-Vim Vegetarian which I seem to prefer since it provides a full complement of nutrients necessary to support daily metabolic processes, and allows one to optimally use food to help generate energy, combat fatigue, and resist infection.

In my attempt to soothe my eczema flare-ups, I decided to try Uremol 20 Intense Relief Moisturizing Cream since I have heard urea has been clinically shown to temporarily relieve minor skin irritation and soothe dry, itcy skin. It was not very effective though since it burned my skin so much when I applied it! Once again, aloe vera seems to do a better job than this chemical-filled product.

KORRES Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial, was great for my dry skin. I absolutely love the weightless soufflé texture that instantly melts into my skin to leave it extremely smooth, soft and moistured by morning, and best of all, this product won't leave your face - or pillow, or hair! - even the slightest greasy!

*Please note that Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion is NOT cruelty-free

MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Extravagant Dramatic Impact & Graphic Precision Mascara

Hi ladies! After falling in love with PUPA Vamp! and Marcelle Xtension Plus, I knew it would be hard to find a new mascara that could compare to them, but I decided to give MUFE's newest mascara, Smoky Extravagant, a try. I must admit it was not love at first sight but after a few months of constant uses, I grew to actually like it a lot!

Smoky Extravagant, a precision mascara that adds volume, length, and curl, is claimed to intensify eyes with dramatic impact that attracts attention from afar and shows precise and defined lashes up close. Its « ergo-conic » brush was thought to allow for ultra-precise, intuitive application, but I actually think it is too big and super awkward to use - it is not precise at all and it makes it really hard to properly coat those tiny lashes in the inner corners.

What do you think of my pj's? ;)

When I first started using this mascara, I found the formula to be way too wet for my liking - there was so much product on the brush that I had to wipe it on a tissue before each use and between each coat! Also, the mascara also took forever to dry.

I am happy to report that I did not experience any flaking at all with this mascara! I am a bit sad that it seems to dry up so quickly though.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Extravagant is available in Black for $28.00.

Summer Essentials

I know, I'm a bit late on this, but I really wanted to share with you ladies the products I reached for the most this summer because some are really little gems!

I have always overlooked after-sun lotions because I'm lazy and I figured out that a normal body moisturizer would work just as well but Burt's Bees Aloe & Linden Flower After Sun Soother completely changed my mind! It was not until I got a really bad sunburn on my chest, arms and belly - I forgot to re-apply sunscreen after going swimming - that I realized how this product was a miracle worker - my sunburn was completely gone within only two days and my skin never showed signs of sun damages! I was expecting this lotion to be liquid and runny but no, it's more on the thick side but still, it sinks right into the sin and it feels so refreshing, and I like the light pleasant herbal scent.

I recently introduced you ladies to my new blog series, Project Farewell Casper, in which I share with you my fake tan adventures, and St Moriz Dark Instant Self Tanning Mousse was the second self tanner that I featured. It was tons of trouble to find a UK seller willing to ship to Canada but all of this hassle was really worth it in the end as this self tanner provides a gorgeous natural deep brown tan, exactly what I was looking for! I hate how it barely lasts three days on me even if I make sure to moisturize twice a day but I guess you get what you pay for.

I recently ordered XEN-TAN Deluxe Tanning Mitt from Apothica because I hated how streaky and patchy St Moriz applied when I used gloves, and as much as I love it because it allows the self tanner to go on soooo smoothly and it makes the whole process a lot easier and quicker, I was a bit disappointed at how cheap the mitt looked... I was expecting it to look like this but mine  does not have the writting and it's not very velvety...

The main reason why I was never keen on depilatory creams or lotions is because of the scent - isn't it awful? If you are able to forget that smell for about 3 minutes, you might actually really enjoy Veet Hydro' Restor Hair Removal Cream*. I absolutely fell in love with the thick texture that was easy to apply on the skin, and the spatula really comes in handy to quickly remove the product without mess. I was actually very surprised to see that the smoothness really lasts longer than shaving - I could see the hair slowly growing back on the third day. I'm also very happy with the results because my legs were soooo smooth and the hair removal cream absolutely didn't dry them. I didn't even feel the need to use moisturizing lotion after!

With my super straight hair, I was a bit sceptical about Marc Anthony Beach Spray at first but I must say the results are actually pretty decent. This product does add body and texture to my straight hair while also extra definition to my layers. I was surprised to be left with manageable and touchable beach hair after using the Beach Spray.

I'm really happy with Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration sunscreen lotion product because, having dry and eczema-prone skin, being outdoors in the summer sun can really dry out and irritate my skin even more, but the new product line brings sun protection to a whole new level, with the luxurious hydrating ribbons that leave my skin feeling silky soft. I love how this sunscreen lotion goes on clear, light and non-greasy. Oh, and let's not forget that delicious signature coconut fragrance!

Let's not forget about sunglasses, of course! These are my super old aviator sunglasses that I got at my local flea market a looooooong time ago - I think I was in high school! I wore them to death as you can see, they went with me on all my trips, from Wildwood to Quebec, and I think I'm actually due for a new pair as they barely stand straight anymore! Should I get some other aviator sunglasses? This pink silver mirror shaded pair is so cute, although these black Ray Ban are a classic. Maybe I should consider some Ray Ban? My boyfriend has a pair that looks like this one but I really like the "prints" on the frame of this Ray Ban RB4105 Folding Wayfarer 710/51 - which brings me to Wayfarer, hmmm... Have you seen something as cool as these
Spy HELM KEN BLOCK EDITION HHCU131? OK, not really my style... I prefer these Tom Ford, which have a little retro vibe.
MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural in N2 Iridescent Beige and N19 Iridescent Icy Pink

My first foray into MAKE UP FOR EVER products were the new Rouge Artist Natural lipsticks and let me tell you that it did not take much time for me to fall in love with these ultra creamy and moisturizing babies that provides light coverage with a soft, shiny finish, which is exactly what I'm looking for in a lipstick in the summer! I have found these to be quite buildable for a more intense but never overpowering look.

I kept hearing so many great things about Carmex Lip Balm Original Jar and being a lip balm junkie, I just had to try it. At $1.98 at Walmart, it was pretty hard to resist! I think I withheld for so long because I was afraid that camphor and phenol could make my lips react (what usually happen with lip-tingling formulas), but so far, I have nothing to report except that this is an amazing lipbalm that I don't have to re-apply every second and I'm so glad I finally decided to give it a try!

I have never been a fan of waterproof mascaras, but Anastasia came out a very clever solution -  Lash Genius, which is a clear waterproof topcoat. I tested this product while swimming at the beach and also under the shower. If I only blink to get the water out of my eyes, Lash Genius stays put perfectly, but if I rub and insist on the lashes, it will start to show signs of fatigue - I noticed some of my lashes stick together, but then again, nothing dramatic!

MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural

I never thought I was a lipstick kind of girl until I started blogging seriously, which eventually led me to the inevitable - jumping on the MAC lipsticks bandwagon. I was never really interested in high end cosmetics brands but MAC lipsticks just looked so appealling and when I was given the chance to try some, I fell in love. That's when I began loathing lip glosses, their stickiness and their poor lasting power. One thing I did not like about MAC lipsticks was their price... and, more recently, the fact that MAC is not longer cruelty-free

Gaby's Beauty Blog being a cruelty-free blog, I had no problem walking away from MAC, but I must say I kind of missed their lipsticks... sometimes. That's when I went on the quest to find their perfect cruelty-free alternative, and when I tried Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks, I thought the search was over - that was until a lovely little parcel landed on my doorstep...

I had never tried anything from MAKE UP FOR EVER before. As I said before, I never had much interest for high end brands, and as much as MAKE UP FOR EVER is often compared to MAC, it just did not seem to get as much hype as the latter on the blogosphere, except maybe from a few makeup artists. Can you believe I was so ignorant of this brand that I could not even name one product from them?

I love the super sleek packaging!

In February, I was extremely fortunate to be invited by the very lovely Josianne from Être Radieuse to the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD VIP Event in their Pro Loft in Montreal and I guess that's what sparked my interest in this brand. When I got a totally unexpected email from the lovely Charlotte with the opportunity to try some of their new Rouge Artist Natural lipsticks, of course, I could not say no!

It did not take much time for me to fall in love with these ultra creamy and moisturizing babies that provides light coverage with a soft, shiny finish, which is exactly what I'm looking for in a lipstick in the summer! I have found these to be quite buildable for a more intense but never overpowering look.

I was sent the shade N2 Iridescent Beige and N19 Iridescent Icy Pink, and I have a hard time picking a favorite! They glide on just like lip balms and I love how glossy they leave my lips without leaving them dry, with a subtle hint of shimmer.

N2 Iridescent Beige (top) and N19 Iridescent Icy Pink (bottom)

Formulated with lightweight pigments and illuminating mother-of-pearl, Rouge Artist Natural provides translucent shine with sheer yet radiant color that will naturally enhance any look. These lipsticks contain Cuapaçu Butter, Candelilla and Beeswax, which are said to add moisture to the lips and improve the longevity of the color. Even for someone who has naturally dry lips like me, I did not have to apply lip balm before and my lips were never left dry! On the other hand, I don't think these lipstick have the most amazing lasting power, although it's decent (around 4 hours without drinking or eating).

N19 Iridescent Icy Pink (top) and N2 Iridescent Beige (bottom)

What I really like with the Rouge Artist Natural lipsticks is that I don't even need a mirror to apply them, because they go on sheer just like a gloss!

The new Rouge Artist Natural collection is available in a variety of luminous shades and three eye-catching finishes: satin, iridescent and diamond. The extensive range features hues ranging from nude and pink to berry and burgundy, making it possible to find a shade to complement every mood or occasion.

 L - R: N2 Iridescent Beige and N19 Iridescent Icy Pink

MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural collection includes 50 shades of lipstick, 18 of which are sold exclusive at Sephora stores nationwide. The remainder 32 shades can be purchased through the MAKE UP FOR EVER ProLoft (514.288.4445) or by visiting makeupforever.ca. These lipsticks retail for $22.00.

Photoshoot With Josianne From Être Radieuse!

Last Thursday, the very lovely Josy from Être Radieuse came over for an incredibly fun night. Josy and I started talking on Facebook about two years ago when we discovered each other's blog, but we finally met face to face very recently, at the Marcelle/Annabelle #Avant1reBeauté Event that was held last November, and there was instead chemistry between us. Josy and I live a little far from each other so it's always complicated to organize a meet-up, but we finally succeeded!

I picked up Josy at the subway terminal with a little surprise!

Back home, we had a merry shopping spree a the grocery store and the liquor store in the pouring rain (crappy Québec weather) and Josy cooked us a delicious vegetarian dinner.

Honey wine and sparkling rosé, melted camembert stuffed with olives and dried tomatoes, pastas with black beans and olives

Then, we were ready for the serious stuff and Josy worked her magic on me:

Can you believe Josy actually used a blush on my lips? It's Make Up For Ever Cream Blush in the shade #4 Fresh Pink

Think that was the serious stuff? Brace yourself!

Josy found herself a new best friend (:

Josy used mostly Sugarpill makeup for my transformation and she also added some homemade corn syrup fake blood.

But why did we do this?

Being a vegetarian, all animal issues are close to my heart and I do my best to raise awareness on those important topics. Josy and I were thinking for some times to unite for a photoshoot to illustrate animal testing, and even though it happened without real preparations, I think it turned out pretty well! For more info on animal testing, be sure to check my cruelty-free page.

Be sure to check out Josianne's blog, Être Radieuse, as well as her online portefolio, Make Up Little Josie. This lovely girl is incredibly talented and I'm sure she will go very far! I can't wait for the next photoshoot (:

I had a hard time choosing what to wear but because it was relatively warm outside for the month of February, I finally went for a dress and jacket, just because I love this combo so much - and OK, because that dress is a little too revealing!

Dress - LoveMode | Cropped jacket - H&M | Purse - MAC Tartan Tale | Dove necklace - gift from my godmother | Nails - OPI Rainbow Connection

I arrived at the Pro Loft half an hour late (of course!) because 1. I totally forgot to print the VIP invitation, 2. my desktop computer (connected to the printer) would not start, 3. the printer would not let me print the invitation from my netbook, 4. I lost the internet connection (thank you, sh*tty Videotron!) when I wanted to double check the itinary one last time (at least, I had wrote it down already) and write down Josianne's cell number in case I got lost (of course, I forgot to do this sooner!) buuuuuut, despite all of this and thanks to the gods of makeup, the HD seminar had not started yet and at least, I was not the only one who was late! Phiew!

Despite having heard about HD makeup on the blogosphere, I did not really know what it was, so I appreciated the seminar and the demo the lovely Joëlle showed on the pretty model Stéphanie. I learned quite a few tips and trick indeed - did you know their HD Blush could be applied not only on the cheeks but also on the lips, as eyeshadow and even as tinted mascara? Also, for a more natural application, you can mix it with foundation.

We were served champagne and hors d'oeuvres all night long and there was even a candy bar - Josy and I did not go crazy... what, who said doggy bags?

(images: Être Radieuse)
It was great seeing Josy again, I already miss her!

The guests also enjoyed 40% off on all MAKE UP FOR EVER products, a special price that is normally reserved for the professionals! I did not purchase anything but yes, I was really tempted by this HD Blush that was around $10 after the discount...

(images: Être Radieuse)
I also met two of Josy's lovely friends, Laurie and Isanielle

Of course, we were not sent home empty-handed! Each guests received a super pretty little gift package including very generous sample size samples of three HD products: the very popular Microfinish Powder, Elixir Instant Radiance and Hydration Serum and Cream Blush in the shade #4 Fresh Pink. I will be sure to write a complete post about these products!

A huge thank you to Josianne for bringing me to such a nice event and to the MAKE UP FOR EVER team from Montreal!
