Project Pan Them All | July Empties

I still can't believe how I used up the 75 ml tubes of Caprina Fresh Goat's Milk Body Lotion in both the Original and Orchid Oil versions insanely quickly! These were great, and I'm glad they are also available in 350 ml bottle with pump. Caprina body lotions are light, non-greasy, absorb quickly and I have found them to help my skin stay moisturized for a while without feeling the need to re-apply. I must add that I prefer the formula of the Caprina Hydrating Cream with Fresh Goat's Milk because it's thicker and more moisturizing, but it's still non-greasy and absorbed very quickly.

I received a coupon for a free box of Cottonelle Fresh Flushable Moist Wipes some times ago and even though these wipes are designed "To feel cleaner and fresher than toilet paper alone", after reading the ingredients, I decided to use them on my face for a quick clean in the morning when I'm in a rush before school or work. It worked well and my skin was not irritated at all - if I remember well, these wipes contain aloes. The only thing I did not like is that the wipes did not stay wet for long and I had to spritz them with toner but oh well, they were free after all! I also like that they come with an "EasyReach hanger" so that you can simply scotch it to a wall which makes it very handy - have no fear, it's also easy to remove without damaging the wall.

I usually try to stay away from clay masks because most of them tend to leave my skin even more dry than before, but I did not have this problem with Elemis FreshSkin Deep Clean Purifying Face Mask. Still, I won't repurchasing it because I don't feel it really did something for my skin.

It's only when I used up Marcelle Power Volume Mascara that I realized that I never reviewed it... but it just kept disappointing me! When I started using it, it was great and provided very good volume to my lashes, but it quickly began to weight them down and it stopped holding a curl, which is a big turn-off for me - mascara-wise, of course! - because of my short and straight lashes. I am very rarely disappointed by a product from Marcelle but I'm currently using their Xtension Plus Mascara, which promises to provide extreme length and curl and it really does!

As I'm experimenting with fake tan, I'm trying to use up the ones I've had for some times, and this sample of Beautisol Need I Glow More? Face Self-Tanner for Normal-Dry-Sensitive Skin is one of them. It was my first proper experience with self tanner and it was OK, although it doesn't provide a tan as dark as I would like.

Biotherm Ultra-Fluid Body Milk SPF 15* was OK, but $35 for a sunscreen that leaves my skin greasy and sticky is a bit much, not to mention the weird packaging that makes it very hard to squeeze some product out. This product is supposed to be fragrance-free but it does have a very light and pleasant scent that is a little citrusy.

I'm not sure what to say about Burt's Bees Coconut Foot Cream - I was certainly not expecting its texture to be almost like a gel, not to mention that it's a bit hard to rub into the skin, and I usually prefer my foot lotion to be more refreshing. Also, this one didn't appear to really moisturize my feet.

*This product is NOT cruelty-free

August Empties

☑ L'Oréal Sublime Mousse Conditioner

I absolutely HATED this mousse hair dye. The conditioner was OK, but I will not repurchase the hair dye. See my review to understand why.

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: L'Oréal Féria Shimmering Boost Hydrating Conditioner

☑ John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Liquid Shine Illuminating Shampoo & Conditioner (sample)

Free samples are always nice, but I'm still not convinced by these shampoos and conditioners specifically desgined for brunettes. They didn't prevent my hair color from fading and they sure didn't illumniate it.

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner

☑ Udderly Smooth Udder Cream Body Cream (sample) review

This must be one of the best body cream for my dry and eczema-prone skin. It is non greasy and it's absorbed very, very quickly into the skin, leaving it imediately smoothed and moisturized. I was actually quite surprised at how fast it soothed my dry and irritated skin and eased the itching due to eczema. This cream is also soooooo inexpensive ($2.75 for 4 oz. tube), I will be sure to repurchase it!

Repurchase: yes!!!

What I'm currently using to replace it: Jergens Naturals Aloe Soothing Body Moisturizer with Cucumber

☑ Fruits & Passion Orange Cantaloup Foaming Bath Cream

This is total crap! Despite its steep price ($23.00 for 250 ml), what you get is far from the "thick, creamy, fragrant foam", as claimed. The foam disappears after 10 minutes and even if the product smells great in the bottle, I can barely smell something once poured in the bath. It did leave my skin softer, but not enough to skip moisturizer.

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: random bath treats

☑ Fruits & Passion Blackberry Musk Foaming Bath

Again, very average foam that last about 10 minutes. Disappointing for the price.

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: random bath treats

☑ Biotherm Aquasource 24h Deep Hydration Replenishing Gel (sample)

This sample was very small so I'm not too sure what to say about it, except that gel moisturizers are never a great match for my dry skin, as most are not moisturizing enough.

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: Marcelle Hydra-C 24H Moisturizing Gel Cream for dry skin

☑ Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion (sample) review

This lotion is eco friendly, cruelty free and vegan and it can be used all over your body. Despites its formula being a little too light and watery for my liking, it works well but boy is it pricey ($25 for 4 oz)! For now, I'm currently testing a new face cream so I'm using the full-size version of this lotion on my hands to see if it will help with my eczema.

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion

☑ NeoStrata Sunsation Insta-Tan For Face Deep Dark

I've had this for so long but I've never really been into self-tanners until recently, and I'm not sure if it's because it's too old or just because it's total crap, but I don't get a tan at all when I use this product. I have also tried it on my body but no, nothing. And it's supposed to be deep dark...

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: Clarins Intense Bronze Self Tanning Tint For Face and Decolleté

☑ Jergens Naturals Aloe Soothing Body Moisturizer with Cucumber review

Despite its light texture, this product is very moisturizing and I do think it has slightly helped with my eczema. I'm absolutely in love with the clean and fresh scent - perfect for summer!

Repurchase: yes

What I'm currently using to replace it: Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Hand & Body Lotion

☑ Hana Shine Shield Thermal Protectant (2 oz) review

This product is a thermal serum that can be used as a leave-in conditioner, which I did and I feel it did a pretty great job. When I first used this product, I didn't feel it did something for my hair, but I changed my mind after a couple of days of using it. My hair were definitely softer, shinier and more manageable. I woould not repurchase because I think $29.99 for a 2oz bottle is definitely expensive!

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: Garnier Fructis Leave-In Conditioning Cream Sleek & Shine

Biotherm Sun After

Biotherm's range of suncare and self-tan products is an important step in maintaining healthy, beautiful skin. Whether you choose to use in-sun or self-tan formulas, your skin will radiate with a sun-kissed glow that shows that it is well protected and perfectly cared for.

It's been a long time since I've used after sun products, and honestly, I never really believed the hype surrounding these products as to me, a $5 body moisturizer containg aloe does the same. Still, when I was offered to test these Biother products, I decided to give them a chance.

Oligo-Thermal Milk ($35.00 for 200ml)
Biotherm innovation: High moisture at the service of a luminous, long-lasting tan.
- Alleviates overheating after overexposure to the sun. Enriched with Pure Extract of Thermal Plankton, trace minerals and Vitamins B5 and E, this formula soothes sun-damaged skin.
- Immediate refreshing action: Shea butter, apricot kernel, black current and seed essential oils nourish the skin to prevent dehydration for softer skin.
Moisturized and soothed, the skin reveals a luminous and long-lasting tan.

The texture is way too light for my personal taste - yes, it is really milky. It's not runny but still, I feel like I need a lot of product to cover my body and it doesn't feel moisturizing at all on my super dry skin. In fact, instead of soothing my skin, it irritated my eczema even more and made my dry patches of skin burn like hell, which has never happened to me before with any other skincare product!

As the texture is so light, it is very quickly absorbed into the skin without being greasy, but what's the point if it's not moisturizing?

The packaging of this product is the same as Biotherm Sun Protection Ultra-Fluid Body Milk - at first I thought it was an interesting shape, but it's not the most convenient. I would have preferred a pump bottle or a squeezable tube, but Biotherm tried to make an hybrid of the two, which leaves us with a hard to squeeze bottle, meaning that you can't get every last bit of product without cuting the tube open.

The Oligo-Thermal Milk has a subtle but pleasant clean and fresh scent that doesn't linger very long on the skin.

I have stopped using this milk after three weeks because it really made my skin condition worsen. It made my eczema flare up and it made my skin irritated and itchy. Maybe I have an allergy to one of the product - which I doubt - but you never know. I really want to give it a try again later, maybe next summer?

Oligo-Thermal Sparkle Cream ($35.00 for 200ml)
Biotherm Innovation: Intense body moisturizer that illuminates and gives skin a toned and healthy glow.
Provides the skin with optimal hydration to preserve an even longer-lasting tan.
Enriched with Pure Extract of Thermal Plankton, Pro vitamines B5 and E and trace minerals to soothe and promote cellular regeneration in sun-damaged skin.
Illuminates the body with a subtle veil of pearlescent particles.

I will be honest - at first, I hated the shimmers in this cream! It was supposed to be iridescent but I thought the sparkles were so shimmery and obvious. Oddly enough, I think it grew on me, and now I love it!

The texture is amazing - it's a cream but when applied on the skin, it's actually more of a gel! It's fast absorbed into the skin, leaving it smooth and moisturized, and subtly shimmery.

Doesn't it look dreamy?

This Oligo-Thermal Cream comes in a big 200ml tub and you do get a lot of product for your money. The scent is the similar to the Oligo-Thermal Milk, although it seems more heavy to me, but it still pleasant.

I think I'm addicted to this cream! It makes my legs look great. I'm not sure if it preserves my tan (I don't have much of a tan anyway) but I would definitely recommend it.

Biotherm Sun Protection

Biotherm's range of suncare and self-tan products is an important step in maintaining healthy, beautiful skin. Whether you choose to use in-sun or self-tan formulas, your skin will radiate with a sun-kissed glow that shows that it is well protected and perfectly cared for.

Honestly, I really don't understand why someone would buy a bottle of sunscreen priced at $30 from a high end brand instead of a $10 bottle from the drugstore. What matters is the ingredients, right? That's why I was curious to see if these Biotherm suncare products would be any different from my usual drugstore ones.

Ultra-Fluid Body Milk SPF 15 and 30 ($35.00 for 200ml)

The 1st suncare line using the Dermobiotic™ technology.

Stimulation
With a high concentration of Pure Thermal Plankton, Biotherm’s sun care line stimulates the skin’s natural defense system against the sun.

Multi-protection
- Protection against sun-rays: Mexoryl® SX and Mexoryl® XL.
- Protection against loss of firmness, wrinkles and aging spots.
- Protection against skin’s dryness: 8 hour hydration.

Incomparable textures
- Smooth, light, non-sticky, non-oily, fast penetrating and subtly fragranced textures.
- These formulas are also water resistant.

After the ingredients, the most important thing to me in a sunscreen is the texture of the product. I don't want a thick cream that is difficult to apply and that will leave me with white patches all over my body, but I hate it when it's too runny and gooey and a big mess to use. This one is more on the light side, but I wouldn't call it a milk. Too me, a milk is very light and runny.

This Ultra-Fluid Body Milk has the consistency of a lotion and it spreads well on the skin, but it leaves it sooooo greasy and sticky and I feel like it never gets absorbed in the skin! Now I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing because it feels very moisturizing on my dry skin, but still, it's not a great feeling to be greasy all over.

When I first saw the packaging, I thought it was an interesting shape, but it's not the most convenient. I would have preferred a pump bottle or a squeezable tube, but Biotherm tried to make an hybrid of the two, which leaves us with a hard to squeeze bottle. Maybe I wouldn't have minded this if the sunscreen wasn't so greasy, leaving the bottle oily and slippery.

The Ultra-Fluit Body Milk is supposed to be fragrance-free but it does have a very light and pleasant scent that is a little citrusy.

I have used the SPF 15 and the SPF 30 alternatively and I did not get a burn with either one, which is great as I am blonde and tends to burn rather than tan. Even thought this product is claimed to be water resistant, it is recommended to reapply after swimming, towel drying, perspiring heavily or washing - I forgot to reapply after going swimming at the beach and I ended up as red as a lobster a the end of the day. Disappointing? Yes, but I wasn't really expecting it to be waterproof anyway, even though I hoped that $35 would make a difference...

Eye Contour Multi-Protection SPF 30 $30.00 for 15ml
- Hydration
- Visible firmness
The sun may cause sunburn, premature aging of the skin and skin cancer. Avoiding the sun, wearing protective clothing and regular use of sunscreens over the years may reduce the chance of these harmful effects.

I can't find this product on the Biotherm website so I'm not sure if it has been discontinued. This is the first time I use a sun protection product especially designed for a specific body area. I usually use the same sunscreen product all over my body and my face, even though I have never really applied sunscreen on my eye contour - I wear sunglasses almost all the time.

At first, it was weird for me to remember to apply this product as it seemed a little useless with my sunglasses, but I've grown used to it and now it's a part of my skincare routine, even when I'm not going out in the sun. It's a great eye makeup base, as it seems to really smooth my skin and primp it for eyeshadow. The texture is different from the Body Milk - it's perfectly light, non-greasy or sticky and it's absorbed really quickly.

The package is great - a little squeezable tube with a tiny applicator that allows you to use the perfect amount of product. The scent is the same as for the Body Milk, which I like.

As I was expecting, I don't see the difference between a drugstore or a high end sunscreen - which means that I will stick to the cheaper option - for now.

Garnier Fructis Light Cream Ultra Protect Leave-In Color Resist

This is the first leave-in conditioner I ever purchased, and it instantly got me hooked. It's a total life saver! It leaves my hair super soft, smooth and silky. It is the only thing that has been able to really revive my hair after I bleached it several time somewhere in 2007:

What was I thinking? My hair was totally FRIED!

Vichy Normaderm 7-Day Challenge (samples)

In February, I signed up to take part in Vichy Normaderm 7-Day Challenge, but the samples lasted me far more than 7 days LOL. This is claimed to:
1 Reduces imperfections
2 Mattifies
3 Hydrates for 24Hr

Healthier-looking skin in only 7 days.
Technological breakthrough - Patent pending
Exclusive association of 3 acids used in dermatologist' offices, salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lipo-hydroxy-acid, in a daily moisturizer.
This product seems to be aimed at oily skin, maybe that's why I didn't really see improvments. I didn't really like the gel texture as it leaves residues if you scratch your skin or try to blend foundation.

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: Elemis FreshSkin Softly Softly Daily Moisturiser

Pureology SuperSmooth Shampoo & Conditioner (sample)

There's not a lot I can say about small samples like this. I'm very sceptical about hair products that claim to prevent hair color from fading as it always fade anyway.

What I'm currently using to replace it: Nexxus Therappe Luxurious Hydrating Shampoo & Humectress Ultimate Hydrating Conditioner (89 mL)

Bliv Off with those Heads Blackheads Sebum Gel (sample)

I have stubborn blackeads on my chin, nose and cheeks and no matter how much I exfoliate, they never seem to come off. This product didn't really help either.

Biotherm Skin.Ergetic Day and Night Creams (sample)

I got these through Facebook some times ago and I can't say a lot as they have lasted me for about 3 days, but I really enjoyed the scent, and I think the texture is perfect. They smelled of berries, too... yummy!

Repurchase: yes... if they weren't that expensive!

What I'm currently using to replace it: Elemis FreshSkin Softly Softly Daily Moisturiser and Avon Basics Rich Moisture Face Cream

Barielle Total Foot Care Cream

The texture is great, not too light nor too thick, and the scent is very subtle. I got this from Meg's Makeup but I don't think I would repurchase it as it has nothing special and there's many great (and cheaper) alternatives out there.

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: Neotoric Diabetic Oxygenated Advanced Healing Cream

Avon Moisture Therapy intensive Treatment Extra Strenght Cream for extra dry skin

I liked this, even though it didn't relieve the itching and roughness of my extra-dry skin (due to eczema), like it's claimed to do. I didn't feel that it provided 24 hour of moisture, but it was moisturizing anyway. I also think the texture is perfectly thick.

Repurchase: yes

What I'm currently using to replace it: Jergens Replenishing Vitamin E Gentle Exfoliating Moisturizer

☑ Mario Badescu Summer Shine Lotion

There's nothing I liked about this lotion except maybe the scent! It's too light, it isn't moisturizing at all, and I absolutely hated the shimmers (seriously, who would want shimmers in their body lotion?!)

I'll be sure to write a full post about this palette, including swatches (if I finally bring myself to touch it, it's so pretty!) Thanks B! =D

Sigma Travel Kit Naughty in Black: I recently became a Sigma affiliate so of course I have applied for their incentive package. According to their table, I thought I would receive Miss Taylor Kabuki but for some reasons I got the travel kit, which is awesome! Here's what it includes:

  • Duo Fibre- F50 - Specially designed to generate an ‘airbrushed’ finish when used to apply liquid foundation. It can also be used to apply blush, highlight shades and loose pigments. Blend of synthetic and natural bristles.

Biotherm products:  Wow, I seriously wasn't expecting that! I know L'Oréal has my mailing address, but I wasn't waiting for such a big package! Here's what they sent me:

    • Sun Protection Ultra-Fluid Body Milk SPF 30
    • Sun Protection Ultra-Fluid Body Milk SPF 15
    • Sun Care Eye Contour Multi-Protection SPF 30
    • Sun After Oligo-Thermal Milk
    • Sun After Oligo-Thermal Sparkle Cream
    • Celluli Laser S.Code Advanced Smoothing and Firming Care (stomach-waist)

I don't think I will need to buy sunscreen this summer, that's the least I can say!

Dove Damage Therapy Intensive Repair Daily Treatment Conditioner sample: I totally forgot I have signed up for this sample on Dove's Facebook page, but it sure looks great! It's claimed to be "The most intense conditioner Dove has to offer", and it's exactly what my dry hair needs. All of the samples have been claimed though.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette 7-Day Trial: I got these by "liking" John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Canada on Facebook. The samples are all gone but you can still enter their contest to win a trip to NYC.

Splenda No Calorie Sweetener Flavours for Coffee samples: I was lucky enough to be able to get some from Living Well.ca, as all of their promotions end up pretty fast. I'm normally not a fan of Splenda but I have tried the French Vanilla flavor and it's yummy!

Maybelline Fit Me samples and coupons: Maybelline New York Canada were giving away samples of their new Fit Me foundation on their Facebook page a while ago so that you can find your shade. If I'm right, I think I'm 115. Not sure I will purchase this foundation though.

May issue of FASHION: I seriously have no idea what's going on as my subscription expired in February... Here's the proof:

    May issue of Glamour
