10 No-Fail Tips for Getting out the Door Quickly in the Morning

(image: weheartit)

If only every morning could be luxurious: waking up at a golden hour to a lengthy shower and hour of jogging, yoga or meditation; leisurely warming a pot of coffee or tea and munching on a homemade breakfast while gradually waking up, refreshed, to start the day. Unfortunately, most mornings are rough and involve missing shoes, disappearing car keys, and an overpriced cup of subpar coffee as a reward for muscling through the hurried commute. If you can’t rise with the sun and start your day at a relaxing pace, at least you have the tips below to help you better prepare for a stress-free morning.

The Night Before

Preparing yourself for the following day may seem like another task to add to your to-do list, but it truly makes you feel more organized and less stressed when completing it. Integrate these steps into your nightly routine, somewhere between scrubbing off your makeup and packing your lunch or laptop for the following workday. You’d be surprised by how much easier waking up is when you aren’t faced with a million things to do.

1. Pick out your outfit – Ladies know that this is often the biggest time-waster when you’re watching the clock! Check on the local weather forecast and plan your get-up accordingly – from the pants or skirt right down to earrings and tights. Actually slip into the garments to make sure that you like the way they look alongside one another so you won’t be unpleasantly surprised when you’re getting changed and have to be out the door in fifteen minutes. Say goodbye to the ever-frustrating early morning decision making process (and the tornado of clothing on your floor)!

2. Prep your purse – If you like to alternate totes often, or are constantly removing and replacing items into your handbag, coordinate your accessories alongside your outfit. Make sure everything from your Kindle and notes from work to your tube of Chapstick and iPod headphones are tucked safely away, and you’ll never forget these things during your pre-coffee funk again.

3. Preserve your manicure – When doing your nails by hand, don’t skimp on the recommended two coats of base and top polish. Always finish your nail art with a generous swipe or two of clear top coat such as Butter London or Deborah Lippmann sold at Sephora to protect your mani for a few days and put an end to early morning touch ups.

4. Ready your cup – Grabbing a cup of coffee on your way to work can be both expensive and time consuming. Before turning in for the evening, stick in a filter, fill it with the ground coffee of your choice, and have the water all poured and measured. All you have to do is press start!

5. Start the day charged – Depending on the requirements of your phone battery, you might save yourself some serious juice by plugging in your phone before going to bed. If 6 to 8 hours is too long to keep it in, leave your charger right next to your phone so that you remember to get it charging the minute you wake up. No more waiting around for a full battery!

The Morning of

When it’s go time and you’re still dreaming of your fluffy pillows and warm sheets, getting ready for the day should be as effortless as possible. A few simple twists to your morning habits will make for a more productive and overall improved start to your day.

6. Make pooch time – Establish a routine for taking care of your pets in the morning. If you have a dog, take it for a quick jog around the block to get your blood pumping, or out with you to grab the mail. Store their food, bowls, and any medicine in a place that is easy to grab so that you can take care of them in a minute, and spend more time on yourself!

7. Power shower – To cut down on shower time, get a shower radio or have music playing, and time yourself to finish up before the play-through of a particular number of songs (three or four should suffice). If you really want to cut corners, get a specialty shower caddy like these from Bed Bath and Beyond to store your toothbrush and toothpaste so that you can brush your teeth in the shower while you simultaneously rinse out the shampoo. It’s really not weird – try it!

8. Streamline your beauty products – Why take the time meticulously to apply layer after layer of cosmetics when you can get the same result in a fewer number of steps? Opt for a two-in-one cleanser and toner or anti-aging and hydrating lotion from brands like Isomers, sold at EVINE Line. Two-in-one shampoos and conditioners will also stave off shower time; and cosmetics such as Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara comes with two wands to volumize and lengthen lashes. Do a little browsing and see what shortcuts you can find that fit your beauty needs.

9. Save the strays for the weekend – Is there anything more horrifying than realizing you’re in need of a shave or eyebrow pluck when you’re already running late? Save these treatments for the evenings or the weekend. With a few more precious minutes to spare, you can turn what would be a chore into a luxurious bit of self-pampering. Plus, you’re less likely to make a mistake if you’re not in a hurry.

10. Use quick tricks on your locks – Showering, teasing, blow drying and curling or straightening to achieve a perfect head of hair is not a possibility for every morning. Dry shampoos like Batiste will be your best friend in between washes to keep your hair looking clean and dry. And days with zero time to style are the perfect excuse to accessorize with a hat (picked out the night before, of course) like a cute fedora or slouchy beanie. When all else fails, throw your tresses into a super easy sock bun you can make at home!

Guest Post | 5 Tips for Flawless Skin

This article was written by Mireille, who is a travel, music and theater enthusiast. She wrote for the stage and television, and is now working as a freelance blogger for Sky Spa, one of the best spa on Montreal’s South shore.

You face’s skin is delicate and demands a lot of care. Those five tips will help you get a glowing, healthy looking skin, regardless of your age.

Moisturize Your Skin With Argan Oil

This miracle oil is packed with antioxidants and vitamin E; it’ll moisturize your skin and help control-aging effects like no other products. You can apply it to your face every night after you washed it. Argan oil is a dry-oil and, therefore, won’t clog your pores or make your skin oily. But if you’re still not keen on applying oil directly to your face, mix a few drops of argan oil with your regular moisturizer. Make sure the argan oil you buy is pure and organic. A good argan oil has a light copper-like color and should not have a strong smell.

Make This Super Easy and Natural Skin-Brightening Mask

Mix one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of lemon juice until you get a smooth consistency. Apply to your face after you wash it, let sit for about 15-20 minutes and rinse off. Honey, a great natural moisturizer, is a packed with natural anti-bacterial agents, while lemon will help cleaning pores deeply and fighting acne. Use this magic mask at least once a week: The results are stunning! It will leave your skin glowing, fresh and clean.

Always Protect Your Skin From the Sun

Sun is fun, but sun is bad for your skin. Try and overcome your urge to have a tan and avoid exposing yourself to it for long periods of time, especially at high UV hours, between 11am and 3-4pm. Always put sunscreen on, with an SPF of at least 30, and wear a pretty hat or cap or scarf to keep your face in the shade. Want a proof that sun will accelerate the aging process of your skin? Have a look at this man’s picture: He was a truck driver for 28 years and always sat with half his face in the shade of his truck and the other half exposed to the sun, with no sunscreen on. The image speaks for itself.

Eat Well

What we eat have a deep effect on our skin, especially on the sensitive skin of the face. To help getting a glowing, healthy looking skin, start by adding lots of fruit to your diet. Antioxidants packed fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, cherries and papayas, or fruit that contain lots of fiber like pears and dates are especially good. Also, drinking a lot of water is important. Try and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. It’ll have a purifying, detoxifying effect on your body and, therefore, your skin!

Massage Your Face

Besides from being relaxing and comforting like a full-body massage, face massage is great for firming your skin, making it glow and look younger. It stimulates blood circulation and toxins elimination. Incorporate one or two face-massage techniques to your beauty routine. Here are a few: Start by tapping your fingers gently on your forehead and around your eyes. Imagine that you are tapping stress and tension away. Extend the tapping to your cheeks and the area around your mouth to stimulate blood flow. Then press your palm across your forehead and push it up to the root of your hair. Repeat with other palm, and so on. End by making gentle circles around your eyes with your index and middle finger, from between your eyebrows down to the sides of your nose, then back up to your eyebrows and so on.

Swimsuit season is quickly approaching, and most of us have started thinking about our dream beach bodies and the new suits we will buy for the summer this year. This, unfortunately, is much easier said than done. As any woman can tell you, finding just the right swimsuit – the one that hugs in all the right places and makes you feel beach-ready sexy – is no easy task. With so much exposed, wearing a suit in public can be really intimidating, and many women tend to give up and go with last years’ old suit before braving the stores to try to find something that actually makes them feel great. Instead of hiding behind the same suit you’ve had for years, get a head start in 2012 in finding the perfect suit for your body so you can rock it all summer long.

1. Cut is Most Important

The first thing to do when looking for the perfect suit is to nail down the cuts that work for you and the cuts that don’t work for you. This takes a bit if experimentation, but it really is the key to saving stress, time, and tears. For example, if string bikini bottoms always look strange on you, then go for a boy short or full bottom. Try looking for celebrities with similar body shapes and check out what suits they have worn. The cut of the suit will determine the type of silhouette it will create on your body.

2. Play up Your Favorite Features

This is advice all women have heard when it comes to picking the right swimwear, but it really is true. In fact, it’s much better to play up the features you love than to constantly hide or play down features you dislike. If you have more curves than you want to admit, but have a huge bust, why not show it off? Go for a push up bustier top and a skirted bottom or full-coverage one piece. Focusing on letting your best features shine will make you feel even better in your suit.

3. Make Pattern and Color Work for You

Choose colors that complement your skin tone, because your skin will be out for all to see. If you have a warm skin tone, look for colors like brown, pink, red and orange. If your skin has a cool tone, then colors like blue, gray, purple, and green work well. Black and white look great on anyone’s skin, but watch out for white suits if you have very pale skin. Use pattern to your advantage, as well. If you want to highlight your bust, choose a bright patterned top with a solid bottom. Or, if you would like to appear to have extra curves, go for a horizontally striped bottom.

4. Try on, Try on, and Try on Again

Sometimes you just have to commit yourself to a day or two in and out of dressing rooms to narrow down which styles simply won’t work and which styles stand a chance. This can be a horrific experience if you let yourself get down on the way your body looks. Instead, think of yourself as playing dress up and bring along your iPod to lighten the mood as you try on. Sometimes it takes breaking free from what you thought would look good on you and trying something new. Never be afraid to take a risk and try on a suit that’s daring and catches your eye. You might just find your dream suit.

Guest Post: The Best Indoor Tanning Lotion For Fair Skin

This post was written by Steve and Jess from Snizzap.com Tanning Lotion Reviews
(image: weheartit)

Lots of people enjoy tanning indoors and most believe you look and feel more attractive with a sun-kissed glow. What many tanners wonder, however, is which tanning bed lotion is the best choice if you have pale
or fair skin?

First, it is important to understand why you need to use a lotion at all. When you tan indoors (or anywhere for that matter) you are subjecting your skin to damaging Ultraviolet (UV) rays, and without preparing your body for this exposure you put yourself at a higher risk for dry, red, itchy skin or a variety of health conditions. Lotions manufactured for use in tanning beds contain special ingredients that harness the power of the UV light to enhance your color and help protect and nourish your skin to keep it moisturized and healthy.

Most of the top rated lotions sold in salons, however, contain added bronzer or tingle ingredients in their formulas that are best used by someone who already has somewhat of a base tan. If you are new to
tanning, or have very fair skin, intense bronzers can possibly cause your color to streak or be too orangey, or they may make you get too dark too fast which might seem unnatural. Lotions with added tinglers have been known to cause reddening or itching of the skin in some tanners, so those are best left to try after you have some color and understand how tanning is affecting your body.

(image: weheartit)

Any lotion that does not contain bronzer or tingle ingredients is a safe bet for newbies, but there are a variety of lotions marketed directly to this group. These products will have the phrases "Step 1", "Base Tan Builder" or "Accelerator" in their names, and they are generally the ones made for people who are just starting out in tanning beds and need to develop a base before moving up to the more advanced lotions.

Another very important thing to consider is how long you spend in the tanning bed your first few sessions, and at what level you're starting out at. Most salons will have lower and upper-tier beds to choose from. If your salon has options, the higher level beds tend to burn less and brown more than the lower level models. They'll probably be more expensive, but if you're serious about getting a natural glow you might want to spend the extra money. As far as how long your sessions should be, in the very beginning you should spend no more than about 5 minutes inside the bed. You should also not go tanning more often than once every few days, this will prevent you from turning red or burning. Once your body gets used to the routine you can slowly increase the length of your sessions, up to a maximum of about 12-15 minutes.

These tips will help you get a sexy dark glow while avoiding the common issues people encounter when tanning like dry, red or damaged skin.
