My first permanent epilation experience with intense pulsed light (IPL)

I had my first permanent epilation experience last week.

I was talking with my mother about using laser to get rid of my underarms hair for some times now, but we never really searched for a good clinic. My mother went for her annual medical check-up last week and she realized there was an Epiderma clinic in the same basement as her doctor's office. So she stopped by to get some infos, and she told me that the laser air removal treatment for underarms was $555. Epiderma operates the most extensive network of hair removal clinics in Quebec with several hundred affiliates already established in all major cities of the province. It is the most known name regarding permanent hair removal, so of course, it was one of the most expensive.

Don't get me wrong, $555 is a pretty neat price to pay to not have to deal with those unwanted underarms hair for the rest of my life, but my mother continued her researches, and she found something even greater.

While surfing on the Internet, she found the Clinique Aqua website (sorry, it's all in French). What is great is that there is a clinic in Boisbriand, which is the city right next to ours! So my mother immediately called for infos, and she explained everything to me.

The people of Clinique Aqua don't use laser, they use the newest technology called intense pulsed light (IPL) - which removes hair up to ten times faster than the laser, and is less painful - and they have a promotion going on: $29.99 for each session (the average is 6 to 10 sessions). Let's pretend I would need 10 sessions: the whole treatment would cost me only $299.99! That is totally insane!

See for yourself what IPL can do:

My mother and I went for a consultation the same day, and we had our first session. I'll be honest: it's not totally painless. The technician told me it would be like if I'd be pinched by an elastic... I'm not sure if the comparison is exact, but let me tell you: it burns! She explained to me that the pulsed light burns the hair, but immediately after, the machine cools down, so the burning goes away. It's not something you can't handle, but it's a little surprising. My mother really disliked it, and she told me she couldn't imagine having the entire legs done that way LOL.

Back home, I didn't notice any redness, and my underarms were not really painful.

One sessions costs $33.85 with taxes, thanks to the promotion. I already have my next appointment scheduled for September 8. I can't wait! =D

  3. @Princess Feef: Well the thing is that nothing can totally get rid of all of your body hair, because there's always new one that appear, but at the end of those sessions, you should see really, really fewer hair. But IPL is the newest technology, so I'm putting all hopes in it (=

  5. That's neat Gaby - I haven't heard of IPL before. That'd be great to not have any underarm hair and especially stubble - ugh, I don't like stubble :\
That's pretty interesting that IPL is less painful yet more efficient than laser.
I haven't had laser or any form of permanent hair removal but my boyfriend had laser done on his back and chest a few years ago (he's still hairy IMO so he must have been a gorilla before I met him). He can really tolerate pain and he said laser hurt! There are different heat settings (levels of pain) that the technician can use but if they use a lower setting then more visits are required and it's not as efficient. So my boyfriend told them to set it the highest - he said even the technicians were worried and kept asking him if he was okay or in pain LOL. I hope the rest of your IPL sessions go well and that you won't need many more sessions.
Yes, I would say the prices at Target are a bit better than Walmart. For example, one Aveeno oil I bought was $7.99 USD...I believe it's like $9.99 CDN or $10.99 CDN at Walmart and I saw it yesterday at Pharma Plus for $11.99CDN. Burts Bees soaps were $3.99 USD at Target but $5.99 CDN here usually...Sometimes Target has designers to do a really affordable line of clothing for them similar to H&M concept. Plus, the taxes are lower in the States so that helps (not close to Ontario's 13% tax). Our Canadian Dollar is pretty much at par with the US dollar as well so it's good in that way for now. For me though, I don't live close to a Walmart :\ There aren't any right downtown Toronto - I have to take a subway and walk a bit to get to the closest Walmart so that's like a $5 trip and an extra 40-50 minutes of commuting.
Seems like we have similar weather. We've had on and off overcast as well.
I use to play Zelda on my old Nintendo64 years ago! I love Zelda! Awww, but that's too bad you didn't save the game in time :\ It's okay, now you know how to get through that part of the game quickly since you've accomplished it already :)

  7. @VaLili: Ahahah j,avais peur aussi, mais c'est vraiment pas si pire! Moi je sursaute un peu à chaque fois, mais c'est correct. On m,a dit que c'était vraiment moins pire que le laser, alors j'imagine même pas ahah

@Pop Champagne: Yes, it's a really amazing promotion! This clinic is still new, maybe that's why they are offering such great deals (=

  13. @Anya: I will update when the treatment will be over, for sure! Thanks for the follow, I'm following you back (=

@AAhleessa: I'm lucky that my leg hair are blonde and very pale, I barely need to shave (=

@Glamorous Glory: I really can't help you on that. Maybe you could search on the net?

@Ms Bubu: J'y ai aussi pensé pour mes jambes, mais le prix est vraiment plus élevé, même si ça en vaut la peine. Et puis mes poils de jambes sont blonds très pâles, j'ai presque même pas besoin de me raser ahah
