I'm always a bit hesitant to post about shampoos and conditioners - well, hair products in general - on my blog because well, there is only so much that can be said about such products... right? What interested me with the Peter Lamas brand is that all of their products are 100% vegan and free from irritating parabens, sulfates and petrochemicals. In fact, they strive to produce healthy beauty products that help enhance each skin and hair type, which is awesome as I'm trying to get into more natural products as possible.
Peter Lamas Chinese Herbs System features a combination of rare chinese herbs, apple stem cells and Swertia extract to help help strengthen hair and give you thicker, fuller-looking hair. I was very kindly sent the Chinese Herbs Stimulating Shampoo ($22.00 for ) and Conditioner ($20.00 for ).
What I immediately noticed with the shampoo is its weird color - brown! This shampoo is very liquidy and runny and I have to be careful to not spill it everywhere. I consider my hair long (past my shoulders but above my breasts) and moderately thick, and I need a decent quantity of shampoo to be able to properly clean my crown area, which tends to give me trouble with almost every shampoo I use, and the Peter Lamas shampoo was no exception. I have to squeeze the bottle three times to get a proper amount of product on my hair and still, because it's so liquidy, I find it hard to properly rub it onto my hair.
It does rinse out easily and it leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean, but when I comb my hair or detangle it a bit with my fingers when it's wet, it feels very dry and hard to manage, which I'm not used to - my hair has always been super easy to manage and it's never tangled! Not to mention that this shampoo claims to not dehydrate hair or scalp... For this reason, I would not recommend to use this shampoo without a conditioner and/or a leave-in product. But there is a positive side to this - I can skip an extra day before washing my hair, which is absolutely awesome because I already wash my hair every three days!
After seeing the color and texture of the Chinese Herbs Stimulating Shampoo, I did not know what to expect from the conditioner, but I actually ended up liking it! Thankfully, it's not brown like the shampoo and its texture is nice enough for a conditioner - less thick than TRESemmé Split Remedy Conditioner, but not liquidy like the shampoo - and it coats my hair well without spilling everywhere. Because my hair is moderately thick, I have to use a moderate amount of product, but still, not half of the bottle as with most cheaper conditioners. Peter Lamas Stimulating Conditioner leaves my hair softer, smoother and nicely moisturized without weighting it down.
I have not been using these products long enough to be able to properly tell if they really promote healthier and thicker hair growth but I will be sure to continue to use them.
Peter Lamas is available in Canada at Shopper's Drug Mart. If you live in the US, check out their store locator.

ReplyDeleteGreat review! I have never even heard about this brand!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of it but sounds fantastic! XOXO
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty nice that you've been able to go another day longer without shampooing! Ever since dying my hair pink I have been making myself go 6 to 7 days between shampoos, trying to extend the color as long as possible. :-x
ReplyDeletehey gaby, salut from a fellow montrealer!
ReplyDeletei was curious to know if you have continued using this line. would you pay for it?
i'm a natural (don't use chemical relaxers, no parabens or sulfates, as many natural ingredients as possible, kitchen concoctioner), so i'm always on the hunt for new products to try.

@nappyheadchronicles : Hi! Always nice to meet a fewllow Montrealer (: Honestly, I'm not sure I would ever be able to shell out $20 for a shampoo or conditioner, or I would expect A LOT out of it. I don't like how this shampoo leaves my hair tangled BUT I like how it lets me skip an extra day before shampooing, which, to me, proves that it does really clean the hair toroughly. As for the conditioner, it does the job, but it's nothing special really - I prefer masks over conditioners anyway.
ReplyDeleteOverall, if you are able to pay $20 for a natural shampoo, I would say go for it because this one is great. However, be careful with it if you already have dry hair because it tends to dry it out even more.
I hope I could help (:
