Guest Post | Booking a Last Minute Break: What to Consider

(image: weheartit)

As the summer months slowly drift away, it’s no surprise people all over the country will be considering a last minute break in the sun to try and prolong the warmer temperatures for a little longer. When it comes to last minute deals, there are a few things that you need to consider to ensure you get the best out of your holiday – not just which bikinis to pack and what factor suncream to use!

The Destination

Give some thought to the destination you book and do your research before you confirm your choice so that you have the best guarantee of the weather you want. While the UK’s autumn is hit and miss, there are several short haul resorts across Europe that will still provide the best chance of long hours of sunshine and beautiful climes.

Compare some of your shortlist resorts and choose one that has the best guarantee of the temperatures you are hoping to find in your holiday – the warmer the average, the more likely you’ll be able to make use out of your great value bikinis.

The Timing

The peak summer season may be over but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any other times to avoid if you want to grab yourself a bargain. As the kids go back to school you will find some great last minute deals, but try to avoid the October half term if you don’t want to part with too much cash. Holiday providers are renowned for piling on the pounds when school is out because it’s the only time most families will choose to travel – avoid this peak week and you will be able to secure yourself a superb deal.

The Board Basis

Choose the board basis that will provide you with the best value for money. All inclusive may seem tempting but it’s not always cost-effective, especially if you’re not travelling as a family with children.
Half board can offer you the best of both worlds – meals in the resort when you want them but also the freedom to explore the area and try out some of the restaurants during your stay.

Search and Compare

Don’t assume that the site you’re on will offer you the best holiday deals. Shop around, compare the options and weigh up your choices. Form a shortlist of breaks that you like the look of and search Tripadvisor to find out what other people think of the accommodation on offer.

Consider Package Breaks

You may have found an awesome last minute deal on a beautiful hotel but, if it’s not part of a package holiday, you will still have the flights and transfers to organise. This can add to your overall cost and substantially diminish your value for money.

Make sure you have your suitcase of essentials ready to go, just in case you find a holiday that is so last minute that you don’t have time to head for the high street. From swimwear and flip flops to maxi dresses and sunglasses, pack your bags and enjoy a stint in the sun this autumn.
