My Goals For 2013

(image: weheartit)

I skipped this post in 2012 for some reasons, but looking back on the list I wrote for 2011, I am actually pretty proud of myself for accomplishing a few things - I went vegetarian (smartest decision I ever made), I started baking desserts more often (check out the 'cooking' section on the blog if you have not already), I worked real hard on my temper to be nicer with everyone and I have realized it has really brought me good things, I did get a few jobs throughout 2011 and 2012 but none in my field of study yet, I did published a blog post every single day even though I fell off something due to school and work but I always try to get back to it, I wrote a list of 100 things that make me happy, I explored fashion a bit more (wearing leggings with shorts was my idea of a "risk" back then, but now, it is one of my go-to winter attire), and finally got my university baccalaureate in Translation.

I don't believe in New Year's resolutions because they are just so cliché and come on, do you honestly work on yours? I know I don't, this is why I prefer to think about some things I would like to work on, but not only through the upcoming year.

exercise.

I had fun playing Wii Fit and Just Dance, so why did I stop? I also started walking and even running a bit this summer, and you know what, it actually made me feel good! I stopped because it was too demanding with work, and also because I never found an appropriate sport bra - excuses, excuses, I know! My goal is not to be the next Victoria's Secret model, I just want to tone up a bit and feel good about it!

eat healthier.

(image: wehartit)

This is not a problem when I cook actual meals, but most of the time, after a long day at work, I am just too tired and lazy - and I know I am not the only one. It is just too easy to order a poutine or pizza, and I am lucky to have such an amazing metabolism, but this might not last indefinitely. I have been really inspired by Jarmaine to go for a healthier lifestyle overall, but I just love to bake - and eat! - desserts too much!

use up more beauty products and stop stocking up.

(image: weheartit)

I am always really proud when I gather together my empty products for my Project Pan Them All posts, and I want to keep up the good work this year. I am not a compulsive buyer and I have rarely bought a hyped product on a whim (except, hrm, Revlon Lip Butter in Cupcake), and I want to continue to keep it that way because I am seriously starting to lack space for more products in the house!

find a job in Translation.

(image: weheartit)

It is starting to get quite annoying to have worked hard three years and paid an immense amount of money for a baccalaureate that is not even able to land me a proper job - I won't do freelancing all my life - even though I send my resume to tons of place everyday. Let's not lose hope...

move into an apartment - or even a house? - with my boyfriend.

I am at a point in my life where I feel a bit "stuck", since I am 24 years old, I have not found a proper job in my field of study yet and I am still living at my mother's house. I am starting to feel the need to be in my own things, in my own place, if that makes sense.

go vegan.

(image: weheartit)

Since I went vegetarian about two years ago, the next logical step would be to go vegan, but yogurt and cheese are two of my favorite things in life, and I have trouble finding vegan alternatives around here, not to mention that I am not a fan of soy or almond milk. I know, these are not good excuses to justify the way animals raised for food are treated, but I am slowly getting there, one step at a time.

Do you set some goals for yourself in the New Year?

  1. Haha, the picture with all the producs must be swedish. There are a lot of swedish brands in it like Ldb, Proffs and Depend. I know, because i live there. :-) Good luck with your goals!

  2. I would love to go Vegan, but it would be far too hard for me. I absolutely love cheese, yoghurts, and eggs too much that I don't think I could just cut them out. I think I would be lost for food to eat! I really like your resolutions, they're good ones :) xx

  3. You will not regret going vegan! I've been vegan for about 4 years now, and it's the best decision I ever made. I did make the transition slow though, first cutting out cheese, then ice cream, then milk, etc. until one day I realized I wasn't eating any animal products any more! I do allow myself to still eat chocolate, it's my cheat food. :)

Good luck with all of your resolution! :)

  4. Good luck with your goals. I went vegan for a while but just couldn't be without cheese. I love too much which is bad really. x

  5. I'm with you ont he new years resolutions, I dont make them rather i reflect back on the last year/few months and think of what i'd like to work on and decide to become more proactive.

As for a job, you will find one! Keep sending our resumes to jobs and talking to people about what you want and eventually you'll land yourself an entry level job that will give you a good amount of experience. That's what happened to me after my MSc (I got one this past year!) and I landed a job that I've been working at for the past four mths, as well as one before that which taught me a lot about what I want in my future. (both in MTL!)
Sorry for the long comment and goodluck!

  11. Sounds like you've achieved a lot of your goals in the past! I think more exercise and eating healthier is a very common resolution (it's certainly mine as well!), but a worthy one and one that is really hard to stick with! I love the idea of using up more products and not stocking up - I definitely want to do that as well.

  12. Congrats on all you have achieved this past year Gaby! I was in the same situation of needing space and wanting to move out a couple years ago. Now that we are on our own one thing that will go hand in hand if you make the move is the healthier life style! I have become so much healthier the past 2 years than I ever was before in my life in terms of cooking and exercise. It is just so much easier when you know have unlimited time with each other and for yourself. Best wishes!

  13. Good list! I hate making small resolutions because I never keep them. It`s more about concepts... and I do give myself the whole year! I wanted to go vegan too, but it`s so damn hard to eat healthy and vegan, especially in the winter. And very expensive. As far as exercise, that`s my biggest acomplishment for 2012, I got back into it, I started with pilates and yoga, biking and running. Even if I do it twice a week is better than nothing. Go on youtube there are tons of fun tutorials to get you started! Good luck this year!!!
