Review: Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Water-Light Daily Face Sunscreen SPF 45

Price: around $15.00/40mL

The claims:

For an even, non-shiny finish. Works beautifully alone or under make-up and moisturizers.

NEUTROGENA® ULTRA SHEER® WATER-LIGHT daily face sunscreens SPF 45 & 60 deliver high effective protection in a breakthrough lightweight liquid lotion format for daily protection from the sun.
- HELIOPLEX photostable UVA/UVB protection
- Waterproof, sweatproof
- Non-comedogenic (won't clog pores)
- Oil-free, PABA free
- 40 mL bottle
- Available in SPF 45 and 60

Ingredients:

How to use:
Shake well before use. Apply generously prior to sun exposure. Reapply as needed or after swimming, towel drying, perspiring heavily or washing.

Pros:
  • absorbs within seconds into skin
  • non-comedogenic (won't clog pores)
  • very light texture, absolutely non-greasy
  • a little goes a long way (you don't need a ton of product to cover your whole face)
  • doesn't leave any white film/residues
  • convenient dropper lets you use exactly the right quantity of product without making a mess like most sunscreens
  • a metal ball inside the bottle helps mixing the product

Cons:
  • expensive for such a tiny amount of product
  • claims to be waterproof but it's absolutely not
  • the consistency is a little too runny for me

What I think:
I think this is the first facial sunscreen I've ever used, and I must say it was quite a pleasant experience. I wouldn't have buy it by myself because I think that $15 for such a small bottle is really expensive, so I'm glad I've got to try it for free.

I like the fact that the texture is lighter than other sunscreens because most of them would feel heavy and greasy on my face. I was amazed at how fast the product is absorbed into my skin, which makes it a perfect makeup primer! The dropper dispenser is super convenient as the consistency of the product is quite runny.

What gets me worrying about most sunscreens is that they leave a white film on my skin, but not this one.

I tested this sunscreen mainly on the beach, and the results were quite positive: my face was a little red at the end of the day, but no sunburn!

One important thing, though: this product claims to be waterproof but, as I suspected, like most sunscreen, it is absolutely not. Don't be fooled, and always re-apply after swimming.

See how runny this product is?

It's already disappearing right into the skin!

  4. Great review! I wanted to buy this this summer but I already have a bottle that I'm trying to use up so I'll probably buy it next year since the SPF is too high to use in the winter.

Thanks for the pictures as well! I can't believe that you can see it absorbing

  5. @~Lisa: This is the first sunscreen especially designed for the face that I have ever used so I can't tell if it's better than the others, but I was amazed at how quick it was asbsorbed into the skin. Maybe I should have put a picture of after it has been absorbed... I totally forgot x_x But let me know what you think it you get it (=

  14. Great review! Don't really like the fact its really watery but I guess that is why it absorbs into the skin fast. Might try it if I come across it. THank you!

  16. Another great review Gaby :)
My older sister got exactly the same Neutrogena sunscreen as you did for free. I remember when she showed it to me, I had asked her if it was a sample. But when she said it was full sized, I was like oh, that's really small! And then when I saw the price of it at the store, I was even more so like :O this better be a good product LOL
Yes it is very runny in consistency now that you show us. Maybe they have to make it like that so it's very absorbant into the skin and not oily?
That's too bad it's not waterproof. I don't know why they say it's waterproof when it's not - like all my other "waterproof" sunscreens they always say to reapply after swimming or heavy sweating. To me I think, "why should there be a need to reapply if it's really waterproof?" Just like lots of eyemakeup that say it's waterproof - but it's not most of the time when I put it to the test :S
And haha, yes my last blog post was a joke. I'm glad to see that you knew it was ;) I did not want to worry or cause concern for anyone. Plus, I thought for sure nobody gonna worry about me anyways LOL I'll be doing a DIY mugshot post up next

  19. @dblchin (double chin): I'm glad you liked the review! Let me know if you happen to try it!

@EveryDay Makeup (becky): I love it, too!

@Nelah: I'm not sure Eucerin is available where I live, and I didn't even know they had sunscreens 0=

@The Girlie Blog: Me too (=

@lindah: Aww that sucks! We had quite a nice summer here.

@Keirasluckycharm: For my taste too, but I guess it's why it's asborbed so fast into the skin.

@Dolce♥Bunny : I didn't like it either at first, but I agree with you. If it was too heavy, it wouldn't be so fast absorbing.

    @Half Dressed: Yes, it is!
