Staying fresh and beautiful is something that most of the people we know want to accomplish. No matter if you are a man or a woman, looking good is a general desire and we all crave for that, one way or another. Just as nature changes, protects and regenerates itself as seasons change, people should also change their habits and body-preserving methods with the shift of seasons. Winter and cold weather bring the need for more detailed protection against cold and wind, while, on the other hand, summer months demand a better protection against ultraviolet sun rays and more nutrition for sun-dried skin.

Stay tuned

Every year brings something new and different for those who care about their bodies and skin. Beautifying should never stay the same out of several reasons. First of all, cosmetology as a science has been making huge steps forward as technology in general advances and those new products and improved body care solutions cry for market placement and better sale. Secondly, we need to change the products we use, just to make sure our skin and body do not overreact to the same product.

Year of perfect skin

When it comes to 2014, several trends have separated from the others and they seem to dominate this year. Depending on your profession and beautifying demands, you can choose among various options. If you are a wannabe model or you work as a PR or have any similar public contact with people, you will need to invest a lot of energy and money in your body shape and your face. People who work in front of cameras have one main representative part - their face. To stay fit and good looking, physical exercise is on the top of recommended methods and actions. Regular physical activity keeps your body in order, your mind fresh and adds to the overall welfare of the organism. What is more, trainings are a great path for skin tightening, keeping your behind firm and for boosting your general mood. When it comes to skin care in 2014, modern trends also include skin-regenerating vitamin injections and collagen treatments. Find out more about these treatments here.

Apart from physical activity, which is always here as a great way of dealing with stress and keeping fat away, exfoliating is also a good way of keeping your skin fresh and compact. The process of removing the old skin cells will leave only the best of your skin exposed to the eye of the public.

Hot hairstyles

Not to forget the head and its sacred cover - hair - this season brings back to life leached out hair tips, combined with dark roots. Besides that, a shorter haircut is also one of the trends for 2014. Of course, that does not mean that you should go and cut your hair in half only because TV-faces do so. One of the trends is also keeping the autonomy of your uniqueness alive.

Whatever you decide to do with your body, bear in mind that your should never overdo with anything. The basics for keeping your body in shape are regular physical activity, diet based on fruit and vegetables and constant consumption of water. All other methods are helpful, but always stay careful and wise when using them.

Hi ladies! Wow, what a bumpy ride I have been on since starting TSW! Despite knowing what to expect in general thanks to the very few resources for TSW sufferers such as ITSAN and that amazing support group on Facebook, nobody lives the cycles and flares the same way so it is hard to predict how my body will act from one day to another.

I am currently on day 45 (I am actually counting the days since my very first flare, on March 9), which means a little bit over a month. These have probably been the longest days of my life so far, although now that I reflect on this period, everything seems like a blur, so... unreal! It is truly tragic how from one day to another I did not recognize my own body...

I remember how devastated I was when the first flares occurred but now that I think about it, it really was not that bad until... the beginning of April, I would say. I forced myself to take pictures to be able to keep track of my progression, although for now, I am not comfortable sharing them here. Maybe when I will feel better overall, but for now, even taking pictures is a struggle. I haven't been able to take some since two weeks because I look and feel so ugly and disgusting.

So to sum up my first post about TSW - it all started with a swollen and oozy face, which happened about three times within two weeks, but the last facial flare was a bit different since it calmed down quite quickly, although this time, it would not stop oozing. At the time, I was using calamine to dry up the ooze which worked but I quickly gave up since calamine made my skin dry and tight, and it gets hard to remove after a few applications. The ooze eventually dried off by itself, causing dry, tight and flaky patches of skin. It was so uncomfortable, even coconut oil and natural balms would not do anything, so that is when I decided to start moisturizer withdrawal as well.

Let me clarify something before I continue - what is a flare exactly?

During a flare, your skin may experience an increase in redness, intense itchiness, hives, swelling, or oozing. When this happens, your symptoms may continue to increase in severity for a period of time. Your skin may also seem stuck in a “holding pattern” of bad skin or at a plateau without improvement for a period of time.

Flares can last anywhere from a few days to several months. When a flare eventually subsides and you enter a break, the skin becomes dry and flakey and you may shed a lot of dead skin. During a break, your skin may also feel tight, like plastic, or very rough. The redness may decrease in some places and oozing may decrease as well. You may be somewhat less itchy during a break.

The cycle of flares followed by breaks usually occurs many times until you are fully healed. You may notice a pattern to the flare/break cycle. For example, skin may ooze during a flare, then become flaky and dry during a break. Some people may never have a true break and experience milder, long-term symptoms until fully healed.

(sourrce: ITSAN General TSA Q & A)

I am believeing my face was stuck in said "holding pattern" for about a whole month since after the last flare started, the dry skin and flaking gradually subsided in place of more and more and more ooze - it was absolutely crazy, uncomfortable, disgusting and painful. At one point, my face was completely red and raw, as if the first layer of my facial skin has been burned. It was extremely painful since it was like an outer layer of fresh, red and raw skin was exposed - add to that constant oozing that I would let dry to a disgusting thick crust. Even my eyelids were oozing, and in the morning, I was not even able to open my eyes since they were crusted shut.

After a week of this, I am ashamed to admit that I almost gave up. This is why I will always be thankful for the support group on Facebook, full of guardian angels who would never fail to pick me up when I was feeling down. I was really scared to use anything on my face since it was so sensitive, but at the same time, the tightness caused by the crust of dry ooze was almost unbearable, at night because I had no choice but to sleep on my back since I did not want the ooze to stick to my pillow, but especially in the morning. I knew moisturizing was not the answer, but when a lady suggested zinc paste, I was sceptical at first but after a bit of research, I realized it was worth a try.

I was sceptical because zinc oxide is an astringeant like calamine, which was uncomfortable on my skin, but the zinc paste I was recommended is Atlas Ihle's Paste 25% Zinc Oxide, which also provides topical protection and treat minor irritations (such as diaper rash, chapped skin and minor cuts) thanks to ingredients such as mineral oil, lanolin and white petrolatum. I have always been against using anything like petrolatum, mineral oil and especially lanolin on my skin but in this case, I had to do something - I was so desperate. I could not find the original Atlas paste at the drugstore, but I did find a store brand version with the exact same ingredients in the exact same amount (it is important to use a zinc paste with the highest amount of zinc oxide possible).

It was a mess to apply the first few times because my face was so wet from the ooze, so the zinc paste would just melt off my face. I eventually got the hang of it and it was such a relief! Finally, I was able to move my face without it cracking or having ooze drip everywhere! Of course, the paste did not miraculously stop the oozing, but it made my life less miserable. I was not dreading the morning anymore, and since the zinc paste goes on white, it actually concealed my bright red and oozy face. Oh and the weird clay scent was amazing compared to the stinky ooze that would drive me nuts!

I have been slathering on zinc paste every morning since two weeks and it has really been a godsend. I used to dunk my face in sea salt every morning to gently remove the paste from the day before and apply a new layer, but it was always messy because of the ooze so I eventually decided to just add another layer as needed. Yesterday morning, for the first time, I noticed that the ooze was starting to subside! Could this announce the end of this neverending flare? I hope it will not be a regular thing though, but you never know with TSW.

Meanwhile, the rest of my body has been somewhat OK - well, OK compared to my face! My whole body was always dry and itchy and I was shedding dry skin everywhere. I was practically living in the bath (with sea salt and baking soda) since it is the only thing that could ease the itch and really relax me, but a week ago, for a good four days, out of nowhere, it happened - a body flare!

I was suddenly not even able to move without crying in pain. My skin was so tight, hot and burning, sore - as if I had been hit by a truck! - and with open and oozing cuts. I could not even tolerate the bath anymore since it burned so much, even with baking soda added to it, which is a neutralizer and prevents the water from stinging. I could not touch my dog, I would not even tolerate clothes since my skin was so raw! I "wore" cotton bed sheets for those four days. Stubbornly, every day, I tried bathing again - I could not imagine my only relief being taken away from me! One morning, surprise, the water did not sting anymore, but when I came out of the bath, I was not able to pat myself dry since the burning sensation was unbearable - I eventually fell asleep, all wet and exhausted from crying so much, wrapped in a bed sheet.

The day after, I fell significantly less sore and burning, and I noticed my open wounds were healing. I was also able to bathe and get out without any pain. That was such a relief, I wanted to jump everywhere! Some areas of my body were so tight after bathing though, I could barely move them - my neck, behind my knees... so I tried using zinc paste on them and it acted as a lubricant. Everything was going for the better! The following days, I was more and more comfortable and as I am typing this, I am surprised I have not even felt the urge to jump in the bath today!

I have also been sleeping fairly well the past three days - about 4 or 5 hours of almost uniterrupted sleep! Before, some nights, I would not even get a full hour! When I started TSW, I would not be hungry and I had to force myself to eat - these days, I am always extremely hungry, it's crazy! Those are major improvements, although I have to keep in mind it will get worse before getting better.

Wish me luck!

Most beauty enthusiasts understand the importance of a good set of makeup brushes. They are the foundation of any good makeup collection and an essential tool for anyone looking to get a natural, professional look with makeup. If you’ve been applying makeup with your fingers or with sponges, you’ll be amazed by the difference a good set of makeup brushes can make. Your finish will be smoother and your friends will be jealous of your flawless, photo finish!

Picking the right brushes can be a challenging task, because, especially in a professional salon setting, you want to make sure that you have brushes to apply all sorts of makeup. You’ll need a complete set. A good makeup brush set should have 11-12 brushes and usually comes with some type of storage option for your brushes. In a typical set you should find a large powder brush, which you use for loose powders. An angled contour brush is usually included for contouring and highlights, something that celebrities have always used to achieve photo finishes but that are becoming more and more popular thanks to beauty blogs. You should also find a universal flat head brush in your set, which you can use for almost anything. A foundation brush and angled eye shadow brush should also be in your set. Both are definite necessities when applying makeup. A round, blooming brush which is usually short and fat is used to apply blush for rosy cheeks. A standard eye shadow brush that is not angled, as well as a flat brush that the ends have not been tapered on is also usually included. An eyeliner brush for liquid liners should come in your set for easy cat eyes and winged lids. A concealer brush, lip brush and eyebrow brush for shaping your brows are also essentials that you should look for in any makeup brush set. You can find complete sets at The Salon Outlet.

Makeup brushes are the first step toward any good makeup collection. The caliber of your brushes determines how well your makeup goes on and how your makeup looks. An effective set of brushes will also makeup applying makeup easier, so it’s no wonder that many women will spend lots of money on acquiring just the right group of makeup brushes.

With all the trouble that people go to in finding the right brushes, it’s important they are properly stored. Proper storage of your makeup brushes will ensure that they last the maximum period of time possible.

Good storage technique begins with ensuring that your brushes are clean. It’s important to clean your makeup brushes periodically, either with a store-bought brush shampoo or baby shampoo, to rid them of bacteria buildup. After washing your makeup brushes, spread them out to dry on a towel and allow to air dry.

After you have clean, dry makeup brushes you can put them away. There are lots of ways to store makeup brushes. From a makeup brush holder that’s similar to a toothbrush holder and stands around roll and tie cases, the choices really have huge variations. However, most beauty professionals do not suggest storing your brushes standing upright. Storing your brushes standing up runs the chance of any leftover makeup caking on them and can bend the bristles.

A roll and tie case which contains individual compartments for each of the brushes is an ideal solution. The case provides ample space so that your brushes don’t touch, which is extremely important. But it’s also compact and portable since it rolls up and can easily fit in a big purse or overnight bag. Another good option is a train case. Many train cases have small elastics internally walls that are perfect for holding brushes. You can find some train cases at thesalonoutlet.com.

Hi ladies! Instead of giving family and friends over-packaged, calorific chocolate eggs this year, treat them to a tasty selection of LUSH’s new bath products especially for Easter! Much kinder to the waistline and the environment, as LUSH bath bombs, bubble bars and soaps are solid which means they are preservative free and packaging free. This year’s offerings include brand new inventions as well as returning favourites.

I had the hardest time trying not to spill glitters everywhere while photographing Golden Egg bath melt ballistic ($8.95)! A brand new invention, this egg is a bath bomb coated in bath melt mixture. It will unexpectedly sink to the bottom of the bathtub while the outer layer dissolves, popping to the surface as the fizzing centre is revealed. The outer bath melt mix is made using fair trade, organic, Colombian Peace Village cocoa butter and olive oil, and this little luxury is scented with the best selling Honey I Washed the Kids fragrance.

Isn't Bunny bubble bar ($6.95) the cutest thing? A bubble bar shaped like a white rabbit, made with shea butter and coconut oil, and with cornstarch added to the mix, meaning a more condensed bar that can be broken in half and used over two baths. Or you can use the whole thing for masses of softening Creamy Candy scented bubbles. Inspired by the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, this sweet little fellow has a pink tummy containing little cornstarch flowers to float in your bath water.

Fear not, Carrot soap ($6.95) smells nothing like carrots - fruity essential oils such as buchu, lemon and bergamot were used to really make your mouth water. The orange part is made with carrot oil to moisturise while the white bunny inside is made with cocoa butter to soften.

Brightside bubble bar ($10.95) is back this year and this time to stay, as it joins LUSH's all year round range after Easter! A bright and cheerful swirl of a bubble bar to give you a fresh and cheerful perspective. It is scented with a trio of uplifting and invigorating oils: Sicilian mandarin, tangerine and bergamot oil and just a squeeze of lemon. All are energising and also incredibly toning oils that will lift the spirits and clear the mind. Crumble under the running taps and watch as the water turns into a hazy red and orange sunset with frothy white clouds of bubbles. This bar is so big, I am sure it could last for more than two baths!

LUSH Easter products are available online and in shops now!

If only every morning could be luxurious: waking up at a golden hour to a lengthy shower and hour of jogging, yoga or meditation; leisurely warming a pot of coffee or tea and munching on a homemade breakfast while gradually waking up, refreshed, to start the day. Unfortunately, most mornings are rough and involve missing shoes, disappearing car keys, and an overpriced cup of subpar coffee as a reward for muscling through the hurried commute. If you can’t rise with the sun and start your day at a relaxing pace, at least you have the tips below to help you better prepare for a stress-free morning.

The Night Before

Preparing yourself for the following day may seem like another task to add to your to-do list, but it truly makes you feel more organized and less stressed when completing it. Integrate these steps into your nightly routine, somewhere between scrubbing off your makeup and packing your lunch or laptop for the following workday. You’d be surprised by how much easier waking up is when you aren’t faced with a million things to do.

1. Pick out your outfit – Ladies know that this is often the biggest time-waster when you’re watching the clock! Check on the local weather forecast and plan your get-up accordingly – from the pants or skirt right down to earrings and tights. Actually slip into the garments to make sure that you like the way they look alongside one another so you won’t be unpleasantly surprised when you’re getting changed and have to be out the door in fifteen minutes. Say goodbye to the ever-frustrating early morning decision making process (and the tornado of clothing on your floor)!

2. Prep your purse – If you like to alternate totes often, or are constantly removing and replacing items into your handbag, coordinate your accessories alongside your outfit. Make sure everything from your Kindle and notes from work to your tube of Chapstick and iPod headphones are tucked safely away, and you’ll never forget these things during your pre-coffee funk again.

3. Preserve your manicure – When doing your nails by hand, don’t skimp on the recommended two coats of base and top polish. Always finish your nail art with a generous swipe or two of clear top coat such as Butter London or Deborah Lippmann sold at Sephora to protect your mani for a few days and put an end to early morning touch ups.

4. Ready your cup – Grabbing a cup of coffee on your way to work can be both expensive and time consuming. Before turning in for the evening, stick in a filter, fill it with the ground coffee of your choice, and have the water all poured and measured. All you have to do is press start!

5. Start the day charged – Depending on the requirements of your phone battery, you might save yourself some serious juice by plugging in your phone before going to bed. If 6 to 8 hours is too long to keep it in, leave your charger right next to your phone so that you remember to get it charging the minute you wake up. No more waiting around for a full battery!

(image: weheartit)

The Morning of

When it’s go time and you’re still dreaming of your fluffy pillows and warm sheets, getting ready for the day should be as effortless as possible. A few simple twists to your morning habits will make for a more productive and overall improved start to your day.

6. Make pooch time – Establish a routine for taking care of your pets in the morning. If you have a dog, take it for a quick jog around the block to get your blood pumping, or out with you to grab the mail. Store their food, bowls, and any medicine in a place that is easy to grab so that you can take care of them in a minute, and spend more time on yourself!

7. Power shower – To cut down on shower time, get a shower radio or have music playing, and time yourself to finish up before the play-through of a particular number of songs (three or four should suffice). If you really want to cut corners, get a specialty shower caddy like these from Bed Bath and Beyond to store your toothbrush and toothpaste so that you can brush your teeth in the shower while you simultaneously rinse out the shampoo. It’s really not weird – try it!

8. Streamline your beauty products – Why take the time meticulously to apply layer after layer of cosmetics when you can get the same result in a fewer number of steps? Opt for a two-in-one cleanser and toner or anti-aging and hydrating lotion from brands like Isomers, sold at EVINE Line. Two-in-one shampoos and conditioners will also stave off shower time; and cosmetics such as Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara comes with two wands to volumize and lengthen lashes. Do a little browsing and see what shortcuts you can find that fit your beauty needs.

9. Save the strays for the weekend – Is there anything more horrifying than realizing you’re in need of a shave or eyebrow pluck when you’re already running late? Save these treatments for the evenings or the weekend. With a few more precious minutes to spare, you can turn what would be a chore into a luxurious bit of self-pampering. Plus, you’re less likely to make a mistake if you’re not in a hurry.

10. Use quick tricks on your locks – Showering, teasing, blow drying and curling or straightening to achieve a perfect head of hair is not a possibility for every morning. Dry shampoos like Batiste will be your best friend in between washes to keep your hair looking clean and dry. And days with zero time to style are the perfect excuse to accessorize with a hat (picked out the night before, of course) like a cute fedora or slouchy beanie. When all else fails, throw your tresses into a super easy sock bun you can make at home!

Various steroids I have been addicted to over the years

Hi ladies! I figured out it was time to post about my topical steroid withdrawal journey, since this is not a widely known subject - even most doctors are not even aware of this condition.

You might remember that I mentioned a few times in the past months that I have been swimming in an abandoned radioactive mine this summer, which I thought was the cause of the red, itchy and burning plaques all over my body. Well this was not the cause (not the number one cause, anyway). I very recently discovered, by myself, after countless hours of searching the internet, that I was suffering from topical steroid addiction. Topical steroid addiction, steroid-induced eczema, topical steroid withdrawal, and Red Skin Syndrome are some of the names used to describe the side effects of topical steroid use.

Unless topical steroids were used to treat other conditions, a person with steroid-induced eczema likely started out with true eczema. Topical steroids suppress the symptoms of true eczema for a time. Regular use of topical steroids causes the body to develop a dependency on the topical steroids. Once this happens, the rashes that appear are actually steroid-induced eczema and signify the beginning stage of topical steroid withdrawal.

A person who sees these eczema-like rashes will likely apply more topical steroids to suppress what they believe is simply normal eczema. They will also probably need to use topical steroids more often to suppress the rash or use a more potent topical steroid. At this point, the skin is addicted to the corticosteroids in the topical steroids and the person has Red Skin Syndrome. If this person stops using topical steroids now, they will begin going through topical steroid withdrawal.

You know what the doctor told me when I went to see her with these plaques covering my body? That I was not taking care of my body properly and that I probably had a reaction to the sun (hmm no, never in my entire life did this happen!). Of course, she only prescribed me tons more drugs, including various pills. Can you believe she actually lectured me when I returned to see her a few months after because the drugs did not work (because I was actually suffering from steroid-induced eczema!) only to go home with tons more drugs again? Do you notice a vicious cycle here? That's when I decided that enough was enough, and I decided to quit steroids cold-turkey. What happened after is a real nightmare...

The most common symptoms of topical steroid withdrawal are:

Red burning skin. This typically appears within a week after stopping topical steroids. It may cover a large area from the start or it may start as a small area, eventually spreading. One classic sign is red skin that stops at the wrist. This leaves the palm unaffected but arms and tops of hands red. It may take weeks for the red arm/white palm to appear as the redness spreads.

Unbelievable extremely intense itching. Most experience the itch throughout the entire process, not just during flares. The itch feels like it originates under the skin and is difficult to sooth.

Shedding or flaking skin. Many people find that they shed a lot of skin. You may need to change bed linens and vacuum daily to keep up with the amount of skin flaking off.

Edema. Swollen skin; swollen body parts containing fluid. Hands often swell during TSW.

Oozing skin. Ooze may seep out of skin or form in small blisters (vesiculation). You may find a hard crust over your skin – this is ooze that has dried.

Itchy skin. The itch is unbelievably intense and feels like it originates under the skin.

Raw, painful skin. It may feel like a bad sunburn and may be sensitive to even the lightest touch.

Eczema-like rashes spread from area of skin that was originally affected by eczema. You may experience hives, very dry skin, itchy skin, deep cracks, or tiny cuts in the skin even in areas where topical steroids were never used. The skin is one organ so when one area is medicated, it can affect all of your skin.

Difficulty regulating body temperature. You may experience freezing hands, feet, or body and often get the chills.

Exhaustion.

Insomnia or difficulty maintaining a normal sleep schedule.

Loss of appetite

Very, very dry skin that has the look and feel of plastic.

TSW sufferers all live this process differently. Personally, my worst area is definitely my face. It started a few days after I completely quit using steroids - I woke up to an incredibly swollen and oozing face. I could barely open my eyes - I was absolutely horrified. I cried all morning. I held ice packs on my face, I drank plenty of water and tea, I applied calamine to dry the ooze, and things eventually calmed down during the week. But - surprise! - another flare was waiting for me at the end of week - I woke up to a swollen and oozing face again, although it was a little bit better than the last time. I was devastated, since I was supposed to attend a friend's birthday that night, and I really thought I was doing better the night before. I could not help but cry again.

My most recent face flare was a bit different - it happened about a week ago, swelling and oozing as usual, but it calmed down quite quickly, although this time, it would not stop oozing, no matter how much calamine I applied. I grew tired of calamine since it gets hard to remove after a few applications, so I decided to stop using products and let my skin do its own thing. The ooze eventually dried off by itself, causing dry, tight and flaky skin. It was so uncomfortable, even coconut oil and natural balms would not do anything.

Through my researched, I learned about MW (moisturizer withdrawal). It is believed that stopping the use of moisturizers as well speed up the healing process since you are not clogging the skin and keeping it wet, thus allowing your skin to renew itself and heal naturally. I noticed an immense relief since I stopped using moisturizers.

My ears are covered in crust from the oozing. I am also getting a bit of ooze on my head, which seems to lead to a bit of hair loss around the crown area. My neck is dry and sore too, with a few patches of "sticky" skin. I can never find a proper position to sleep at night - either my swollen ears hurt, or my face stick to my pillow because of the ooze. I like to dunk my face in a sea salt bath at least once a day, or cover it with a cloth dipped in sea salt. Sea salt has natural antiseptic properties and it dries the ooze and soothes the skin.

My right hand has always been my biggest struggle when I had eczema - now it's just so painful. I can't even close my hand without my fingers bleeding. My left hand is doing better though, with only one finger affected. The rest of my body is okay I guess, just super dry, tight and flaky. It itches the most at night. It is doing much better without moisturizer, since even coconut oil seemed to make my skin itchy and red.

I take a sea salt bath once a day since my poor sore skin can't stand showers. Baths are actually a big relief and they do help me fall asleep, although I probably get only 3-4 hours of sleep a night. Even antihistamines that cause drowsiness won't work wonders since my skin itches the most at night.

Because of the lack of sleep and the pain, I can't work. I can barely go outside since the cold hurts my raw skin. I barely see my friends or family although I am incredibly grateful to have their support through these rough times. So I lounge at home all day, drinking plenty of water and tea, and eating healthy to detox my body. I read or play video games. The only remedy is time. It is believed that it takes 10-30% of the time one used topical steroids to be fully healed.

I think I mostly covered everything in this post, which is the first of a serie regarding my TSW journey. I will try to post monthly updates. I really wanted to share this with you ladies to justify the lack of posts - since I can't use anything on my skin, I obviously can't write about skincare or makeup products. I will still try to keep up with this blog, maybe with hair products, outfits (if my face looks decent enough for pictures) and recipes, until I feel better.

Thank you so much for sticking with me ladies!

Hi ladies! I know, my last post was two weeks ago, but here is my excuse - I recently started TSW (topical steroid withdrawal), which prevents my body from functioning normally - I can barely eat and sleep, I can't work, and some days, I can't even walk properly. I am planning to write a whole post about this, but in the meantime, please bear with the lack of posts.

Before realizing I was suffering from TSW, I tried all kinds of body lotions, creams and butters to moisturize my red, itchy, irritated skin, but nothing would do, not even Basil Lemon Extra Moisturizing Body Butter for dry skin, that I used to love thanks to its great creamy texture and it's fresh and sweet smell.
I have to use a fair amount of product to produce a fine, creamy, easy-to-rinse foam, but I guess that for a soap-free cleanser, it's fairly good. I loved how this prodct never left my skin parched after showering.
But recently, since starting the TSW process, my skin could not tolerate any moisturizer so I looked for natural alternatives, and I realized it was the time to give another chance to coconut oil. Which I did, but it did not work wonders - my skin is so raw and sensitive that it just won't tolerate anything - which bring me to MW (moisturizer withdrawal), which I will talk about more in another post.

Hi ladies! After trying, falling in love and sadly using up both KORRES Quercetin & Oak Antiageing & Antiwrinkle Night Cream and Eye Cream, I was very excited to be given the opportunity to try a few other products from this collection!

I had never used something like the Instant Wrinkle Filler ($57.00) before so I was very curious about it, and I must say I am quite impressed! This product is a targeted treatment that visibly smooths fine lines and deep wrinkles for more youthful looking skin. Altough I am not struggling with deep wrinkles yet, I have some annoying expression lines around my eyes and mouth, but this filler does an amazing job at smoothing them, leaving my skin super soft! The precision tip is perfectly designed to apply this antiaging treatment directly to problem areas and the formula quickly absorbs for comfortable, all-day wear alone or under makeup.

Since I am struggling with very dry skin due to eczema, a serum is an essential to me, and I actually really like the Antiwrinkle & Firming Face Serum ($69.00), which is claimed to visibly improve skin texture while rejuvenating dull, aging skin. Did you know that quercetin and oak is the first natural, clinically proven alternative to retinol? An ultra-powerful antioxidant derived from the oak tree, it works fast to help minimize the signs of aging and keep skin looking younger. This serum also contains myrtle extract to improve skin elasticity, mourera fluviatilis to help maintain the skin's water levels, hyaluronic acid to help skin retain moisture and appear smoother, and hexapeptide to improve firmness. I really like how fast this product is absorbed into the skin, so that I can quickly follow with my day cream.

The Antiageing & Antiwrinkle Day Cream With Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15 ($59.00) is probably one of the most moisturizing day cream I have tried! It reduces the appearance of aging while improving skin softness, smoothness, and firmness, and protecting skin with broad spectrum SPF 15. This cream also contains mourera fluviatilis extract which offers moisture binding properties to help maintain the skin's water levels while shea butter, in combination with sweet almond and hazelnut oils, nourishes and helps skin keep in moisture. I really use the thiniest quantity of product with each application but I have to make sure to really massage it in if I don't want to be left with random white patches on my face. I love how my skin imediately feels soothed, soft and smooth, and I don't feel the need to re-apply thorough the day.

Hi ladies! I have been busy working from home on the company I recently started with my sister in law, Les Joyeuses Balayeuses, and my daily "uniform" mainly consists of comfy clothes, such as this leopard print hoodie I got from ROMWE.

As soon as I saw it, I instantly fell in love with the leopard print sleeves and hood, and the contrasting neon pink letters! The loose (but not unflattering) fit and super soft-touch fabric makes this hoodie a daily staple for me. Also, I did not notice that the pockets were on the side until I received this sweater, but I think this detail makes it more flattering.

When I ordered this item, it was only available in One Size, but now I see that it is actually also available in M, L and XL for $20.99. If this sweater has caught your eyes, be quick because the items on the ROMWE website sell out fast, and when they are gone, they are gone forever!

Serenay Taylor is a freelance journalist, writer and health and fitness blogger.

There are now a wealth of respected and advanced surgical methods to enhance beauty and offer youthfulness and vitality. While the expense for these surgeries may have dropped in recent years, the attention to detail and precision of the surgeons and medical staff involved have remained as proficient as ever. Nowadays customers can realise the benefits of the most modern and up to date forms of treatment. The following are five of the surgical procedures that can make you look and feel younger.

Facelift

The traditional facelift of the past was all too often based around a generic treatment of alleviating and lifting sagging skin. While this is still the most basic of aims for the procedure, nowadays there is a far more individual approach to the surgery. A fully accredited surgeon will modify their form of facelift to ideally suit the patient - this can create a long lasting result of firmer rejuvenated facial skin. Offering one of the most progressive ways to revive aging neck muscles and facial skin, the modern facelift can act a byword for convenient beauty satisfaction.

Liposuction

The natural process of ageing can often leave a stomach sagging and in need of some help. Even a daily dedication to strenuous exercise may not be enough to move the most stubborn deposits of fat, which is where the surgical procedure of liposuction can be of great assistance. The most reputable surgeons can use the technique to skillfully improve the shape and contours of a tummy, leaving a patient looking and feeling far younger and more confident about themselves. The skill and experience of Cosmetics Canada is one such trusted outlet for the finer aspects of liposuction. The skilled staff at the centre can be relied upon to fulfil every patient's specific needs and desires.

Chin and Cheek Implants

The modern and technically advanced procedure of chin implants is specifically designed to allow a patient to enjoy a new sense of proportion to their profile. This is also the case with cheek implants which follow a similar desire to improve the augment and enhance the shape of the face. The noted ideal for a visage usually veers towards the triangular. These techniques can bring a patient's face closer to that goal, with stronger and more defined cheek bones and chins a great plus for a younger look.

Brow Lift

The brow is the part of the face that often tells a person's story. Lines, wrinkles and sagging skin around the forehead and eye lids are areas that a cosmetic surgeon is fully able to help with. With this method, tiny surgical incisions are made just under the hair line while the patient is under anaesthesia. During this procedure, the experienced surgeon will gradually reposition the patient's brow, relieving the face of those tell-tale wrinkles and lines. The result can take 10- 15 years off a person's visage, adding confidence and energy to the whole face.

Laser resurfacing

One of the most advanced surgical beauty techniques if laser resurfacing. This state of the art laser technology can be used to heal the facial effects of sun, acne, birthmarks or the effects of ageing. There are so many great things about fashion today. Not only can inspired fashionistas turn to top designers or brands for trendy looks, they can easily show off their style through DIY projects that yield custom garments and pieces. Even ladies not handy with a thread and needle can grab a glue-gun, iron, scissors or other common household items to help create their own look while showing off unique personalities. Take these ideas from fashion bloggers:

(image: Instagram)

This fun concept could also be done on jackets or flannels, but looks amazingly fabulous on rolled boyfriend jeans as shown. The blogger muse used military, varsity and rock inspired patches, combined with a black leather jacket and modern Oxfords to help solidify an edgy look, perfect for day or even the right evening event.

The girls behind A Beautiful Mess created a custom sweater complete with a cute red heart to show off a feminine look with a touch of child-like whimsy. The model’s softly curled hair and natural-hued makeup palette help to ensure a sweet yet modern vibe.
(image: Trash To Couture)

Women wanting to look like they’ve styled themselves in a ridiculously expensive designer sweater can take a cue from this custom project. Made with an old sweater and a piece of applique this Trash to Couture blogger simply hand sewed the edges and cut out the middle portions. Her high-fashion sense definitely shows through with a custom sweater perfect for a multitude of occasions.

Of course, as anyone into both high fashion and the punk trend currently invading our pop culture knows, a feathery headpiece is certain to be a just-right accent. While celebs pay big bucks for designers to create these pieces, fashion blogger Maegan took to her craft supplies to construct a one-of-a-kind headpiece every bit as punk as the runway styles, but undoubtedly way more affordable! And somehow, when paired with plaid and leather, it works flawlessly!
Ladies who appreciate the fun side of fashion will adore these custom designed sunglasses complete with a 3D effect thanks to faux pearl embellishments. This blogger undoubtedly has a quirky yet hip take on style, and a variety of sunglass silhouettes could easily be adorned with faux-pearls but also, crystals or metallic detailing.

Of course, business owners, coaches and many others may want some custom gear of their own, but aren’t as savvy as the above bloggers. So another, easy way to personalize any outfit is by taking advantage of zipgraphix.com. Send in a logo or artwork and they can screen or embroider it onto shirts, pants, bags and much more to help you standout in a crowd. To show individuality and uniqueness, start customizing your garments and accessories in 2014!

Whenever we’re in doubt about fashion, all we have to do is pick out an old magazine and see what could be cool again. There’s always inspiration for in the past, and that’s especially true when it comes to fashion. As modern as our sunglasses today may be, most of them actually take inspiration from iconic models that were popular in past decades. We went through the archives and found some of the best vintage shades of all times, as worn by celebrities of another century:

It doesn’t get any more iconic than Audrey Hepburn’s look in Breakfast at Tiffany’s! Any fashionista knows it by heart and possibly wore it at least one Halloween: the tiara, the oversized sunglasses, the little black dress, opera gloves and the jewels. Audrey’s sunglasses were mistakenly labeled Ray Ban, when they’re actually Oliver Goldsmith. The sunglasses are still available today.

For menswear, Persol are probably the most classic sunglasses there are. The round, keyhole design was popularized by Steve McQueen in the 60s, and they’ve become synonymous with cool. To this day, the popular model is produced by the brand, and worn by celebrities both male and female.

Another lady of many sunglasses was Jackie Kennedy. The first lady loved her oversized sunglasses (so 60s!), and we loved her square, gradient frames she wore ever so often. The spectacular style, with low arms and a geometric shape, are still reproduced by brands such as Gucci or Burberry.

Marilyn Monroe was an obvious icon of the mid century, and her cat eye sunglasses are still coveted by many. The blond actress had a full bombshell look, which included exaggerated cat eye sunglasses. The style is still made by Tom Ford, but you can also find authentic vintage pairs on Etsy.

Debbie Harry isn't as glamorous as these other ladies, but she is a rock’n’roll queen. Together with torn denim and sexy tank tops, her go-to sunglasses in the 80s were Ray Ban Wayfarers. The small, square, unisex frames couldn’t be more popular now, with virtually any sunglasses seller having them in stock, and every celebrity owning a pair.Gaby Fauchonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10014037641790308423noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5492597756850688826.post-90276413506389465872014-02-03T12:13:00.002-05:002014-02-03T12:13:57.249-05:00Project Pan Them All | January Empties

I am pretty proud of myself since I seem to be on a roll with all of those empties! Next month might be disappointing since I just started using a few new products but oh well, you can't have it all every time, right?

I like to spray Marc Anthony Salon Expert Keratin Miracle Frizz-Smoother Leave-in evenly on my damp hair to ensure easy detangling and super smooth hair - it never fails to leave it incredibly soft, hydrated and manageable. I have been using it every time I wash my hair since I got it, and I can really certify that it is a miracle product! This is really my favorite product of the Salon Expert range and I am wondering if I will ever find an alternative that is just as great.

Elin Bianco Treatment Mask has been absolutely wonderful to revive my dry hair, especially after coming back from Europe this summer, since I did not bring any conditioner and I did not look after my hair at all for a whole month... or two. The texture is amazingly perfect - it feels thick, almost like a styling paste, so it never makes a mess in the shower. My hair was left incredibly soft and smooth after the first use!

When I first started using MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Extravagant, I found the formula to be way too wet for my liking - there was so much product on the brush that I had to wipe it on a tissue before each use and between each coat! Also, the mascara took forever to dry. I was happy to see the formula improve after a few weeks though, and I was left with volumized, lengthened and defined lashes that actually held a curl all day - and I have the straightest lashes ever! - after only one coat. I like to build up to three coats with this mascara for maximum effect, but be careful because it tends to start clumping at the third coat.

KORRES Quercetin & Oak Antiageing & Antiwrinkle Eye Cream is probably my all-time favorite eye cream, since it's almost a miracle for me to have found a rich and extremely moisturizing eye cream that doesn't give me milia! I can't comment on the dark circles and pufiness claims though since I mainly use eye cream as a prevention but also to keep my delicate eye area moisturized as it gets eczema flare-ups very easily.

I am usually very happy with their body butters, but The Body Shop Brazil Nut Body Butter has been such a let down! It failed to calm my itchy and dry skin caused by eczema and it did not even seem to moisturize it, although it is said to be formulated for dry skin... even pure aloe vera did a better job than this product! Huge disappointment.

I have not tried a lot of their cleansers but LUSH Let The Good Times Roll was a pleasant surprise! Since I have dry and eczema-prone skin, I was happy to learn that, despite providing deep exfoliation, Let the Good Times Roll is gentle enough for everyone to use - my skin was not left tight or drier, instead, I could feel it being super soft and refreshed! Did you know that this best-seller was a holiday product that’s now a permanent part of LUSH's cleansers range?

Another product I was recommended for my eczema by the doctor I consulted when I had my monstruous allergic reaction after I went swimming in a supposedly radioactive lake this summer is Pro-Derm PostX2, which is supposed to be a miraculous moisturizer... but of course, I did not notice any improvment. Another almost $70 thrown out the window... thanks eczema.

I was given Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion* some times ago but I did not want to use it since it is not cruelty-free, but I must admit it came in handy - at least temporarily - to calm those rashes I was struggling with after my adventure in the radioactive lake. It did relieve my itchy and extra dry skin thanks to cooling menthol and colloidal oatmeal, but with ingredients such as parabens and alcohol, I knew this was not a long-term solution, so whn I ran out, I purchased some aloe vera as a more natural replacement.

I asked a pharmacist which supplement was recommended for vegetarians and he told me that plant foods do not contain vitamin B12, but that as a lacto-ovo-vegetarian, I could obtain most of mine from milk, dairy products, and eggs. The requirement for vitamin B12 is very low, but it is essential, so I decided to give Jamieson B12 a try anyway. I also purchased Jamieson Vita-Vim Vegetarian which I seem to prefer since it provides a full complement of nutrients necessary to support daily metabolic processes, and allows one to optimally use food to help generate energy, combat fatigue, and resist infection.

In my attempt to soothe my eczema flare-ups, I decided to try Uremol 20 Intense Relief Moisturizing Cream since I have heard urea has been clinically shown to temporarily relieve minor skin irritation and soothe dry, itcy skin. It was not very effective though since it burned my skin so much when I applied it! Once again, aloe vera seems to do a better job than this chemical-filled product.

KORRES Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial, was great for my dry skin. I absolutely love the weightless soufflé texture that instantly melts into my skin to leave it extremely smooth, soft and moistured by morning, and best of all, this product won't leave your face - or pillow, or hair! - even the slightest greasy!

*Please note that Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion is NOT cruelty-free

Faceworks Instant Booster Exercises give you a new way to use the No.1 facial toning program. The 6 exercises can be used as an express workout, or used individually to give your eyes, lips, cheeks or skin an instant makeover.

We all have times when we don't feel 100%. Too many late nights or illness can leave you looking less than your best. Now you a little extra help when you need it, like a secret beauty treatment to help you stand out from the crowd and get noticed.

How to use the Instant Booster Exercises

The six exercises give you an instantly sparkling and healthy look - and it's all natural! The effects are noticeable immediately: the plumping effect from increased circulation lasts half an hour or more, the general brightening effect lasts longer. Some people find the extra healthy glow lasts for hours! Use one or two exercises or all six, and for the best results repeat each exercise 5 times.

Exercise 1: Mouth Shaper

This exercise is a great lip plumper! It works on the top and bottom lip and the mouth area. It's an easy exercise to do without thinking too, so good for when you're on the move.

Exercise 2: Cheek Toner

The Cheek Toner boosts circulation in the large group of cheek muscles to lift sallow or tired faces back to their best. Good when you look washed out or you need to get your glow back! The Cheek Toners are the hardest working exercises in the Faceworks program: real star performers to give you ‘A List’ cheekbones.

Exercise 3: Eye Toner One

The lower lid is where tiredness really shows and this exercise erases all signs and helps to remove dark circles and puffiness. The benefits go deep into the eyes, increasing circulation to get you sparkling.

Exercise 4: Eye Toner Two

The second Eye Toner is great for tension around the eyes and over scalp. Use both Eye Toners to brighten your peepers: they're the windows to the soul! You can use this exercise to refresh and relax you at the end of the day too.

Exercise 5: Mouth Area Shaper

A brilliant multi-tasking exercise, this one brightens skin, brings roses to your cheeks, AND plumps your lips. It's great if you don't have much time or the man of your dreams has entered the building. Another one you can do while on the move, as it doesn't need much concentration.

Exercise 6: Face Finisher

Lastly, the Face Finisher increases circulation in the entire face to get your skin tingling: great to energise you and get the blood moving first thing in the morning.

Hi ladies! Since I started trying to eat clean this summer, I have found myself craving sweets less, which saddens me a bit at the same time because I don't feel the urge to bake desserts as often... except that I have found one healthy and delicious alternative, which are these scrumptious apple pie muffins!

*The following recipe is supposed to yield about 12 muffins but I got much more - although smaller - since I made them using my Babycakes Cupcake Maker.

For the muffins:

½ c. butter, softened

1¼ c. sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

½ tsp. salt

2 x eggs

1¾ c. flour

2 tsp. baking powder

½ tsp cinnamon

½ c. milk

For the apple pie filling:

2 c. chopped apple

¼ c. sugar

¼ tsp. cinnamon

4 Tbsp. butter

For the streusel topping:

1 c. flour

⅓ c. brown sugar

½ tsp. cinnamon

½ tsp. salt

⅓ c. butter, room temperature

Start by making the apple pie filling. Melt 4 Tbsp.butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add apples and ¼ tsp.cinnamon and ¼ c. sugar. Cook until apples are soft and the butter and sugar has made a thick syrup. About 5 minutes.

For the muffins, cream together the first four ingredients, then beat in the two eggs.

Combine the flour, baking powder, and ½ tsp. cinnamon, then stir in the dry mixture alternately with the milk. Fold in the apples, and fill muffin tins ¾ full.

Combine streusel ingredients and blend until it forms pea sized crumbs, then top the muffins with streusel. Bake in a 375º oven for 30 minutes (I baked each batch 5 minutes in my Babycakes).

I tend to favour neutral shades such as gold, bronze, brown or copper for eyeshadow, and Annabelle 'Goddess' is one of those gem that have quickly become a staple in my makeup routine since it is the perfect everyday shade, yet it is also stunning for a smokey eye at night!

Finding the perfect golden shade is not always easy - some are too bright, too dull, too orange-y, but not 'Goddess'! It is dark enough to look natural, yet it is super easy to layer for a deeper and more intense look. It always makes my eyes stand out, wether I use it alone or with darker shades and black eyeliner for a smokey eye.

'Goddess' is of amazing quality for a drugstore product - it is super smooth - almost creamy! - it layers and blends super easily, and it is incredibly pigmented - one swipe and I am good to go! I don't have oily lids so I have not experienced fading problems, but I like to always apply a bit of concealer on my lids to neutralize the redness due to eczema, so maybe this helps.

At such an affordable price ($5.95), you are sure to fall in love with 'Goddess' too!

Hi ladies! Containing 1/3 nourishing milk, Uriage Crème Lavante is a 2-in-1 skincare product: cleanses and nourishes all at once. It preserves the hydrolipidic film, perfectly respects cutaneous balance and compensates for the drying-out effects of hard water. I have been using this soap-free liquid cleanser - formulated with thermal water and suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive and reactive - daily for a few months now and it's about time I share with you my opinion on it!

I have always been struggling with dry and eczema-prone skin, but this condition seems to have worsen since this summer, when I went swimming in a radioactive lake - yes, I know! - so I have to be extra careful regarding what I put on my sensitive skin to prevent any flare-up. The opportunity to try this soap-free cleanser came just at the right time!

I really enjoy the pleasant light, fresh and "clean" fragrance of this cleanser even though it doesn't seem to stay on the skin after showering, but its texture is not really consistent, which makes it hard to dispense the proper amount of product, despite the convenient pump packaging. I have to use a fair amount of product to produce a fine, creamy, easy-to-rinse foam, but I guess that for a soap-free cleanser, it's fairly good.

Crème Lavante leaves my skin soft without feeling tight or dry, but despite its nourishing claims, it did not really improve my skin condition and I still have to apply moisturizer after use. This cleanser can also be used on face and hair, although I did not try it, and it is suitable for all the family.

Uriage Crème Lavante Soap-Free Liquid Cleanser is available for $19.95 for 500mL at Jean-Coutu.

Hi ladies! I really wanted to share with you a favorite piece of clothing of mine I have been wearing really often during the months of November, December and even January! A friend even joked I would not be able to wear it after January because of its festive Christmas design...

Isn't this hoodie the cutest? I was imediately drawn to the deer print since I thought it would be perfect for the Holidays, and I only received nice compliments on it! I like that despite being available only in One Size, this hoodie fits perfectly! It is also designed with soft fabric so I never want to get out of it!

The Deers Print Twin Pockets White Hoodie is also available in Black for $26.99 at ROMWE.

(image: Pinterest)

Photography can move a soul, change a view and create an emotion. It is the art of today, because people all around the world take pictures of places, things, other people or they simply make images of whatever they want. The world has changed in the last years, and technology is a big part of our lives today.

Photography comes as an important organ of communication. As there are more and more people each day using cameras in order to express their state of mind, feelings and opinions. There are no successful magazines, which have no pictures. Every set of news is accompanied with different collections of images that score the credibility of information. This is why photography can be called the art of today. It is still creative and the one who is saying that pictures made with mobile phone cameras are not a representation of art are just wrong. Even the best Miami photographer, can capture an important moment with his phone camera and not with the big Nikon which is always about tens of megapixels.

Good photographs have to be of a high quality, and this is indisputable but the biggest advantage of the development of the photography is that it is accessible to anyone. There are only more alternatives today for us. Of course you cannot make a wedding photo album using your iPhone, you need to hire a photographer who will make the best moments of your life, last forever in beautiful pictures. The photographers are the ones who have the ability to play with the moments of our life. They play with the light, with the angles and at the same time with emotions we express.

Only when you look at the amazing photo collections of National Geographic magazine for example, you get blown away by the authenticity and the beauty of the pictures. Sometimes the picture of the cruelest moment when a fearless lion captures an innocent zebra and eats it, looks simply breathtaking and beautiful. You catch yourself thinking that the image is beautiful and you start to understand that actually you are cruel to think like this, but that is the circle of life portrayed in the photo. That is what happens every day in the world, even if you are not close to that lion, photography makes you feel like you are and it gives you the chance to explore the realness of life. Today the photography is the art of the genuine world.
